One View/ Parent portal
Duval County Public Schools uses Oneview/Focus, an online Student Information System, to help parents stay up-to-date on student information and ensure the school has access to student emergency contact information. The parent portal allows parents to access grades, progress reports/report cards, attendance, and apply for Middle Schools. It is also the system where emergency contact information is held and updated. It is very important that families have access to their child's Focus account by creating a Focus account and linking their account to their child. Information on Focus can be found below.

Ways To Help At Home
Communication is Key
Stay in contact with your child's teacher to ensure a successful partnership all year long!
Help Your Child Manage Their Emotions
Helping your child manage their emotions is a valuable skill that can benefit them throughout life. Here are some practical strategies you can use:
Model Emotional Awareness: Share your own feelings and how you manage them. For example, say things like, "I'm feeling a bit stressed; I think I’ll take a deep breath."
Encourage Expression: Let your child know it's okay to express their feelings. Create a safe environment where they can talk about what they're experiencing without judgment.
Teach Emotional Vocabulary: Help your child learn to identify and label their emotions. Use feelings charts or books to expand their vocabulary.
Practice Deep Breathing: Teach them simple breathing techniques. For example, they can inhale deeply through their nose for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale through their mouth for four.
Use Visual Aids: Use tools like mood meters or emotion cards to help them recognize and communicate how they feel.
Encourage Problem-Solving: When they encounter challenges, guide them through brainstorming possible solutions rather than immediately jumping in to fix things.
Establish Routines: Consistent daily routines can provide a sense of security, making it easier for children to manage unexpected emotions.
Teach Coping Strategies: Introduce techniques like counting to ten, drawing, or taking a walk to help them cope with intense feelings.
Validate Their Feelings: Acknowledge their emotions by saying things like, "I understand that you’re feeling upset. It's okay to feel that way."
Encourage Journaling: For older children, writing about their feelings can be a helpful way to process emotions.
Promote Physical Activity: Encourage regular physical activity, which can help reduce stress and improve mood.
Seek Professional Help if Needed: If you notice persistent emotional difficulties, consider consulting a child psychologist or counselor for additional support.
By using these strategies, you can help your child develop emotional resilience and the skills they need to navigate their feelings effectively.
