February 2017 is Digital Month

This year’s SID theme was "Be the change, unite for a better internet"

We celebrated SID 2017 on Tuesday 7th February at EFC.

It is an annual event, which raises awareness of good online practice with the purpose of empowering learners to be creative, confident and resilient using online and digital technology.

This year at EFC, we focused on two key stages during the event: Creativity of Digital Technology was featured and exhibited in the Reception Area of the college and ‘Makey Makey’ workshops were held for the students in the Learning Lounge.

Various interactive games were built with Makey-Makey, an electronic invention tool and toy that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs.

The event attracted great interest from individual/groups of learners who tried the computer games which had been connected to flowers, aluminium balloons, lookalike real baby toys and staircases making them into interactive touch pad devices.

Each balloon represents a social media which is about socialising; sharing ideas, pictures and events.

(each time a balloon touched the ceiling the connecting sound of the app was played, eg Facebook - a camera click.)

Babies: GENERATION Z

The babies are representative of Generation Z and diversity opportunities the internet offers. Connecting the world, people and ideas!

The steps displayed a wonderful variety of artwork completed over the weekend by our talented art students. Each step played a note of the intro to the film; "2001 Space Odyssey".
