Principals Message
Kia ora koutou,
Hello to you all,
This week Mr O is at the Rural principals conference in Christchurch.
This popular conference is tailor-made by principals for rural and teaching principals with a mix of inspirational keynotes, practical workshops, networking and hauora opportunities.
We are sure he will come back with a lot of knowledge to share with our teaching staff.
Ka pai te ra.
Have a great day.
Pacific Island Meal
It would be good to send the children with food for morning tea and maybe a light lunch if they are very particular about what food they like to eat.
This meal is to compliment our whole school study of the Pacific Islands, which the children have been doing this term.
WINTER SPORTS Year 5 and 6
Wed 28 May - Winter Sports Year 5 and 6
On Wednesday our Year 5 and 6 students will be travelling to Kensington Park to participate in Winter Sports with other school from the Whangarei District. We will leave Kokopu at 9am SHARP! Starting times for all sports is 10:00am. Teams should assemble at their respective venues by 9:30am.
There will be a briefing at 9:45am sharp at most venues. All competitions will be finished
by 2:00pm.
Our children are participating in hockey, football, Rippa rugby and table tennis.
Each child needs to take responsibility for themselves for whichever sport they are participating in. For basketball and badminton they will need shoes for the court. For hockey they will need shoes for the turf and mouthguards. If they have their own hockey stick/gear they can bring that along too.
Please send them with food, water bottles, sunblock, hats and mouth guards for children participating in contact sports.
Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to transport the children and help with supervision.
Class Camps Consultation 2025
Last week a notice was sent home asking all families to help us shape the future of school camps. Thank you to those people who have completed the survey online. Your feedback is very important to us.
If you haven't returned your survey, please go online to www.kokopu.school.nz/camp25
There is an incentive treat for children whose families have returned their survey.
INTRO TO SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS - ONLINE
Every three years all public schools in Aotearoa hold elections for their School Boards, and this
is going to happen again in 2025.
The School Board is a key part of Kokopu School because they do a lot of important things behind the scenes, that while they may not be visible, are really important to keeping Kokopu School running. Our School Board write our strategic plan, consult with our community about things that matter, make sure our finance are being spent wisely and ensure that we are giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Our board is made up of 5 parent representatives, the Principal or Tumuaki and a staff rep elected by the staff.
The board need to appoint a Returning Officer, who is responsible for the running of the election and we have appointed Election Pilot as the Returning Officer for our election this year and for the election to be provided online.
Election Pilot have been assisting schools with elections for over 20 years and have been the only election provider accredited by the Ministry of Education to provide online election services since online elections started in 2022.
Important things like the nomination and voting forms will be sent to you by email directly by Election Pilot.
If Kokopu School doesn't have an email address for you don’t stress, because Schooled Election Pilot will send these out to you by post so you don’t miss out.
Can you please ensure the school has your up to date email addresses?
Please have email details for both parents/caregivers to Kokopu School by Wednesday 16 July.
There are a lot of rules around School Board elections that need to be followed and the main
ones are the Education and Training Act 2020 and the Education (Board Elections) Regulations
2022.
Your name and contact details will be provided to Election Pilot to enable them to deliver elections services for our school as required by legislation. They will use your contact details for the provision of election services for Kokopu School only and your details will be deleted 60 days after the election date as required by legislation.
Our election day is Wednesday 10 September 2025.
Change of Date: Gym Competition
Everyone is welcome to come along and support the children and see their amazing gymnastics skills.

In conjunction with other primary schools in our area, teachers are participating in a second teacher only day to help us upskill in the delivery of the new maths curriculum. This day is an allocation from the Ministry of Education. We appreciate that this will be inconvenient for families and thank you for your understanding.
Parking Reminder
