Treynor Celebrates the Class of 2024
The Class of 2024 graduated 64 students on May 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Treynor High School West Gym. The event was live-streamed here and was preceded with the playing of the Senior Parent video. The ceremony began with the High School Choir singing an opening song and the THS Band playing the processional and National Anthem. Superintendent Dr. Joel Beyenhof gave a welcome, followed by Haley Nowlin delivering her speech "Long Live Class of 2024". The High School Choir performed "In the Silence" by Jacob Narverud and was followed by the band playing "Celebration" by Randall Standridge. Danny Kinsella delivered "The Next Chapter" and was followed by Cadence Quick's speech, "To the Class of 2024". High School Principal Mr. Rick Nickerson gave the Honors Recognition and delivered his remarks to the graduates. The presentation of diplomas was announced by MS/HS Counselor Danie Floerchinger and handed out by Board President Brandon Vorthmann with Superintendent Beyenhof. We want to wish The Class of 2024 all the best as they begin a new chapter. We hope they remember that Excellence Expected = Excellence Achieved.
Treynor Elementary Rounds Out Impressive 23-24 Year!
Test scores were also impressive at the elementary level. For the 2023-2024 school year, 91% of students were proficient on the ELA ISASP test, 88% on the math ISASP test, and 85% on the ISASP science test.
Various enrichment activities took place, including the 4th grade's Invention Convention projects, the Nationwide Noetic Math Contest, the 5th grade's flag essays, an author visit by Iowa native Coach Sloth, and regular presentations by the Pottawattamie County Soil and Water Conservation District.
The success of the school year would not have been possible without the hard work and collaboration of staff, families, and the community as a whole! Thank you for your investment in Treynor's youngest learners!
Danny Kinsella Receives Treynor's 2024 Governor Scholar & Mr. Iowa Soccer Awards
The Iowa Governor's Scholar Program began in 2003 and is presented by the Governor's Office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and the Iowa Farm Bureau. The seniors being honored have been selected by their high schools as the highest academic achievers. The largest 64 schools in Iowa, according to the Iowa Department of Education BEDS document, were invited to select two seniors who are the highest academic achievers for their first seven semesters. All other schools were invited to select one senior who was the highest academic achiever for their first seven semesters.
Kinsella also received this year's Mr. Iowa Soccer Award. Again, Kinsella's dedication not only to sports but service to his community was recognized in receiving the award. The Mr. or Miss Iowa Soccer award is given to a student-athlete who has exhibited scholastic excellence, superb sportsmanship, and community service.
Boys Soccer
Treynor's boys soccer team closed out their season this spring with a 14-4 record and as substate semi finalists. Danny Kinsella made the All State Coaches Association 2nd Team, and Jaret McIntosh received an Honorable Mention.
Treynor's WIC 1st Team members were Andrew Kellar, Danny Kinsella, Jaret McIntosh, Brock Poland, and Charlie Schrage. The WIC 2nd Team members are Aiden Kellar and Tyson McCain. Jude Mieska received a WIC Honorable Mention.
Girls Soccer
Treynor's girls soccer team finished an outstanding season as regional tournament champions and state semi-finalists. Their overall record was 18-3. The Class 1A All Tournament Team members from Treynor are Allie Houser and Jozie Lewis. Jozie Lewis was also named a member of the 1A All State IGCA as a defender.
Treynors' All District 1A All West IGCA members are Claire Schrage, forward; Jozie Lewis, defender; and Zoey Zadalis, goalie. Treynor's WIC 1st Team members are Cali Bach Jozie Lewis, Claire Schrage, and Zoey Zadalis. Gabby Blanchard was named to the WIC 2nd Team. Allie Houser, Ava Kennedy, and Addie Minahan received WIC Honorable Mentions.
Boys Track
Treynor's boys track team had 12 athletes qualify for state. They completed their season in 8th place for Class 2A. They had three State Runner-Up Finishes in the shuttle hurdle relay, 4x100, and 110-meter hurdles. Karson Elwood finished in 3rd place for the 2A 400-meter hurdles. Two conference meet records were set by Treynor athletes and 4 school records were set this season! Way to go, boys!
Girls Track
Congratulations to Treynor's girls' track team! They finished in the top three for 11 of their 16 meets. They closed out their last three meets taking 2nd at the WIC Meet, 1st at Tri-Center, and 2nd at the Regional Qualifying Meet. Twelve additions were made to the Treynor track record books in the 2024 season. Way to go, Cardinals!
Boys Golf
The boys' golf team ended with a regular season record of 38-2. The Treynor team was Sectional Team Champions, WIC Tournament and Season Champions, and State Team Qualifiers. Four new records were set at the WIC tournament by the Treynor team. With the second day of the state tournament canceled due to inclement weather, Treynor finished 8th overall. Individual finishes were Ethan Konz as a State Placer (8th Place), Jace Tams in 22nd, and Brock Poland in 26th.
Girls Golf
Treynor girls' golf team finished their regular season with a 26-4 record. Their 9-Hole meet record was a perfect 9-0, and they were WIC Season and WIC Tournament Champions! Congratulations to Sophi Pedersen on her 32nd place finish at state - she was in the top half of Class 2A State golfers!
Baseball
Overall, Treynor baseball had a great start for an almost entirely new coaching staff. Lots of games throughout the summer will help to build the program for years to come. Treynor's varsity baseball team finished the season with a loss in the 2A Substate Quarterfinals against the Ridgeview Raptors.
Brody Larsen made the All District First Team. Andrew Kellar, Ethan Hill, and Charlie Schrage made the All District Second Team.
Charlie Schrage made the WIC First Team. Treynor's WIC Second Team members are Body Larsen and Holden Minahan. Andrew Kellar, Ethan Hill, and Loeck Helvie received WIC Honorable Mentions. WIC All Academic Awards were given to Loeck Helvie, Andrew Kellar, Holden Minahan, Brady Phelps, and Charlie Schrage for holding a GPA of 3.25 or higher as seniors. This group truly went above and beyond that standard, with an average GPA of over 3.8 for the five seniors!
Softball
Treynor's softball team, coached by Kara Huisman, finished the season with at 16-12 record! The team defeated Underwood 10-0 in the first round and Missouri Valley 7-2 in the second round. Sadly, the team lost the regional championship game to Van Meter 2-6.
Coach Huisman shared students who broke into the Treynor record books. Delaney Mathews now holds the 2nd overall single season average - 49-93 (.527). Jadyn Huisman holds the 2nd overall high career RBI with 131, 5th overall single season RBI with 42, and 3rd overall career home runs with 12. Delany Mathews tied the 2nd overall single home runs record with 9.
Huisman and Mathews made the 2nd All State Team and the All District Team. Treynor's WIC 1st Team members are Jadyn Huisman, Delaney Mathews, and Addie Minahan. Maili McKern made the WIC 2nd Team, and Claire Schrage received a WIC Honorable Mention. Jadyn Huisman, Maili McKern, and Cadence Quick received WIC All Academic Awards. The three seniors held an average of a 3.99 GPA, far surpassing the 3.25 GPA award requirement.
Decision Day 2024
Middle School Spring Musical - Shrek Jr.!
Mrs. Davis and the middle school students worked hard for weeks this spring practicing for their musical - Shrek Jr. They put on a fantastic performance!
Clue: On Stage
The student-led production "Clue: On Stage", directed by Abhi Bista was held at the Treynor Performing Arts Center with three performances during the weekend of April 20. The students put on a great show that not only entertained but showed off their behind-the-scenes production skills!
Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave longtime fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!
TeamMates Day at the Zoo
On April 26, Treynor's TeamMates mentors and mentees spent the day at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. TeamMates' mission is to positively impact the world by inspiring students to reach their full potential through mentoring. The mentorships in Treynor make a significant impact on students' lives, and we are thankful for their service!
