EMS Weekly Update

Congratulations to all of the EMS students who earned Honor Roll, Highest Honors, and/or Perfect Attendance for the 3rd Marking Period! We had 36% of our students earn Honor Roll, 13% of our students earn Highest Honors (straight A's), and 17% of our students earn Perfect Attendance! Keep up the good work!

Monday, April 15th will be a B day.

Friday, April 19th will be a two-hour early dismissal for students.

Don't forget! The immunization clinic will be held on Monday, April 15th. If you have signed your student up to receive their vaccines needed for the start of 7th grade, please make sure your student arrives at school on time. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the nurses.

On April 10th, the Board of Education approved an amendment to the 2023-2024 SMCPS Operational Calendar. The revised calendar is posted to www.smcps.org/calendar. Due to the amended calendar, the 8th grade picnic at the Blue Crabs Stadium has been moved to Tuesday, June 4th. If you have any issues with this change, please contact Ms. McKay at dbmckay@smcps.org.

8th-grade End-of-Year Activities—Parents, please ensure you have reviewed the letter that came home outlining the 8th-grade end-of-year activities and have returned the signed contract to your child's homeroom teacher. Make sure you especially review how discipline referrals will directly impact your child's privilege to participate in all or some of the activities.

SMCPS students can sign up for the following Summer Courses for original credit: Health 2, Foundations of Computer Science, Geometry, Spanish 1, and Spanish 2. This FLYER includes all of the details on how to register and course dates and times. Any questions can be directed to Heather Wysokinski at hmwysokinski@smcps.org.

Applications for AVPA, GIS, STEM 9, STEM 8, and STEM 7 will open on Tuesday, April 2nd, and close on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. No late applications will be accepted. The online application will be found on the Academies page of the SMCPS website. The annual Academy Open House will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 10th starting at 5:30 pm. More information is available via the Academy Open House Google Site.

The EMS PTO is excited to sponsor the sale of the EMS 8th Grade Shirts! The shirt design was done with the help of Mrs. Ryan's art students and was completely designed by 8th Grade students (Adriana and Olivia). See the design of the front and back of the shirt below!

Shirts are $10 a shirt ($12 for 2XL and $13 for 3XL), and all funds raised by the sale go directly back to the 8th Grade for their dance and other end-of-the-year activities!

Shirt sales will be open from now until April 18th, and students will receive their shirts in early May. Please fill out the form below entirely so we have all the information we need to get your student's shirt to them.

Payment will be cash, check (**made out to EMS PTO**), or PayPal (**with student's name in the comment line**).

Please submit payment in a timely fashion so that we can order your student's shirt for them.

**Payments sent in with the student should be given to the student's homeroom teacher labeled with the student's name, 8th-grade shirt, and EMS PTO. Checks are to be made out to EMS PTO.**

6th and 7th grade field day will take place on Tuesday, June 4th. More information to come from homeroom teachers when the time is closer.

The gym floors at EMS will be refurbished starting on Tuesday, May 28th. All PE classes will be outdoors. If it rains, we will develop a plan to use the Aux Gym, Exercise Room, Health Room, and Media Center. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's PE teacher and/or grade-level administrator.
