Message From The Principal
Exciting News for 2026!
Mater Dei Catholic College will be opening a Teach, Speak & Hear (TSH) Outpost in 2026!
This new outpost will provide vital support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have access to inclusive, high-quality education and specialist services. As a feeder school, we are excited to be part of this important initiative and look forward to working closely with MDCC and TSH to support every student’s learning journey.
This is a significant step forward in creating a more accessible and supportive learning environment for all.
Year 6 Camp – Swan Valley
The Year 6 cohort recently participated in a highly successful and enriching camp experience at Swan Valley Adventure Camp. Over the course of three days, students engaged in a diverse range of outdoor and team-building activities designed to foster resilience, collaboration and personal growth. Activities such as orienteering, raft building and several group challenges provided students with opportunities to step outside their comfort zones and develop new skills in a supportive environment.
Evenings included reflective discussions and recreational games, all of which contributed to a strong sense of community and camaraderie among the students. The camp not only strengthened peer relationships but also encouraged independence and self-confidence.
Sincere thanks to Deb Barry and Bruce Plint, our Year 6 teachers, who were assisted by several other dedicated staff, whose commitment and care ensured the camp was both safe and memorable for all involved.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Pentecost, observed 50 days after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. It is a powerful reminder of Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen His followers. The Sacrament of Confirmation marks a profound milestone in the spiritual journey of our Year 6 students. This sacred rite completes their initiation into the Catholic Church and affirms their personal commitment to live as disciples of Christ. It was fitting that this Sacrament was celebrated on the Feast of Pentecost at two Masses last weekend. Confirmation Mass, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Donald Sproxton was a reverent and joyful occasion. The ceremony was beautifully supported by the Year 6 teachers and the school choir who sang at the Sunday Mass. Our thanks to Olivia Robertson, our dance teacher, and Angela Coon, the Sacramental coordinator, for all their support of staff and students.
Semester One Reports – Thursday 3 July
Semester One school reports will be distributed to parents on Thursday 3 July via SEQTA. These reports provide a comprehensive overview of each student’s academic progress, personal development and engagement across all learning areas this semester. Teachers have been diligently preparing these reports, which serve as one important way of communicating student achievement and growth throughout the semester. I acknowledge the significant effort our staff invest in this process and thank them for their ongoing commitment to supporting student learning at St Luke’s Catholic Primary.
Welcome Father Geoff Aldous
We warmly welcome Father Geoff Aldous, who will be filling in for Father Stan for the next 4 weeks. We look forward to having him join our parish and school community. Be sure to say hi!
We wish Father Stan safe travels as he returns home to Poland. We hope you have a great holiday, Father Stan, and enjoy spending to spend time with your family, which we're sure you will!
Farewell Mrs Williams
After five years at St Luke’s Catholic Primary, at the end of this term, we say farewell to a truly valued colleague and friend, Mrs Sarah Williams. As a dedicated classroom teacher, to her leadership as Assistant Principal and Short-Term Principal, Sarah has left a lasting impact on our school community.
Her passion, professionalism and warmth will be deeply missed by students, staff and families. As Sarah takes on the Principalship at St Lawrence in Balcatta, we know she’ll continue to inspire and lead with the same heart and excellence she brought to us.
On behalf of the school community, we wish Sarah every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter in her career.

LifeLink Day
The official launch of the 2025 LifeLink Day for Primary Schools was held on Wednesday 4 June at Newman College. Kerry, Kristy and three of our Year 6 leaders – Bodie, Tia and Madison – were honoured to attend. This special event gave students the unique opportunity to speak directly with the Archbishop and Bishop – asking questions, listening to their insights and learning more about the Church’s mission to care for those in need.
The LifeLink organisation was established in 1994 to unite and provide a recognisable identity for all the individual welfare and social service agencies supported by the Church here in the Archdiocese of Perth. Each year, many thousands of Western Australian families and individuals, people struggling right here at home in WA, will reach out to a LifeLink agency for help.
In the spirit of compassion and in alignment with Pope Leo's prayer intention for June, we held our Free Dress Day and raised $747.80 to support LifeLink agencies.
Thank you to our school community for your generosity and support.
St Luke's Church 30th Anniversary
In May, our parish and school community came together to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of St Luke’s Church – a truly wonderful milestone and a joyous occasion for all involved. The event was filled with warmth, reflection and a strong sense of connection.
Whilst unfortunately Fr Stan was unwell and wasn't able to celebrate the Mass with us face-to-face, he joined us via FaceTime. We extend our gratitude to Fr Francis Kot and his assistant, Fr Laurence, for leading the Anniversary Mass. A sincere thank you as well to Miss Olivia Robertson for preparing our choir students and liturgical dancers for this special Mass. Well done to these students on your beautiful singing and reverent dancing; these added a lovely touch to this memorable celebration of faith, history and togetherness.
Biggest Morning Tea
On Thursday 5 June, our staff participated in the Cancer Council's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. Staff members brought in yummy contributions and joined together for a shared morning tea. We also sold raffle tickets for a hamper of goodies, which was won by Mrs Cochrane in Kindy. Together we managed to raise $306 on the day. If you would like to donate, please use our school link https://www.biggestmorningtea.com.au/fundraisers/annpeart/biggest-morning-tea-wa. Together, we can help Cancer Council raise much needed funds that go towards vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy.

Photos can be ordered online https://www.3p.net.au/ using the shoot key code: C4E3K
Photos can be ordered up to 2 weeks after photo day. After this time, all orders will incur a $20 Archive Fee. Please refer to the message sent on Seesaw for further details on placing your order, should you need assistance.
We kindly ask parents to ensure students come to school neat, well-groomed and wearing the correct formal school uniform, including their jumper. If your child does not have a jumper due to low stock, we will borrow from another class.
Year 6 students will need to wear their Leader's shirt on Friday 27th and formal uniform on Monday 30th. This year, the year 6s will be gifted the graduation photo, so you do not need to place a special order for the Leader's shirt (Graduation) photo. Place your class, sibling and individual student photos as per normal.
Please refer to the timetable below to ensure your child/ren arrive at school on time, especially if they are having sibling photos or are one of the first classes to have photos for the day.
Winter Sickness
In the interest of keeping the school community healthy this winter, please refer to the image as a guide, and if your child is unwell, please do not send them to school. We understand it can be difficult to navigate daily commitments, however, it is in the best interest of your child, other students, families and staff to keep your child home if they are unwell.
We ask that if you are called because your child is unwell, please collect them as soon as possible. The school is not equipped to care for sick children long term, and an unwell child often needs the support of a parent or a close loved one.
Winter Carnival
On Thursday 29th of May, Year Six and selected Year Five students braved the wet and wild weather to participate in the Northern District Schools Sports Association Winter Carnival. The students had the choice to play netball, soccer or AFL in a round robin competition against eight other schools.
Although we did not come home with a trophy, we had many great wins and close games throughout the day. I would like to commend our students for displaying exceptional resilience, camaraderie and teamwork skills during the wet conditions on the day.

Year 6 Incursion
Australian Red Cross delivered an interactive and informative incursion for the Year 6 classes this week. They taught students about refugees and people seeking asylum around the world and in Australia. During the In Search of Safety program students had the chance to imagine what it would be like to flee their homes quickly through an engaging simulation and to hear from children their age about their experiences of seeking safety. It was a great opportunity for the students to learn about human rights and why people need protection. The students have all been given an activity to practise humanitarianism at home!

🩰 Congratulations to Our Talented Year 4 Performer, Kiani 🩰
Kiani has been selected to perform in the upcoming WA Ballet Company Production of ALICE (in Wonderland) at the Crown Theatre. After auditioning among over 200 young dancers, she was selected as one of the top 45 chid artists.
After 4 weeks of rehearsals, 3 times a week, Kiani will be performing these July school holidays. The production will run from 5–12 July.
We are incredibly proud and wish Kiani all the best as she prepares for this magical performance.
🎬 Hugo Stars in a Short Film 🎬
During the January school holidays, Hugo (Year 5) acted in a short film called Origins and played one of the main characters. The sci-fi film was written and directed by local talent Max Botica of Outter X Studios and is about a child who discovers his true origins while being pursued by authorities after awakening his mysterious new powers. The film was shot over three very long, hot summer days in multiple locations around Perth and Hugo's Dad, Nathan (from our EOTG Dad'll Do band) even got roped in on set as an extra at the last minute! The film recently premiered at The Backlot Cinema in West Perth and is now available to watch on YouTube.
If you are interested in watching, we recommend parents view it on their own first before deciding to show it to their child/ren or not.
Congratulations, Hugo, on being selected to act in this short film! We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you as an actor.
If you have any good news stories about our students that you would like to share with the community, please send any photos and a short blurb to jasmine.calley@cewa.edu.au
