Your Future Matters
"Your Future Matters" is a new free summer program for incoming juniors and seniors - sign up soon, as class size is limited to 30 (we will also maintain a waitlist). The focus will be college exploration, creating a college list, college comparisons, college essays and telling your story, resume workshop, college application process, understanding financial aid, two college campus visits, and much more!

FAFSA Information

Did you know 7 out of 10 high school graduates could get up to $27,500 over five years? Fill out the FAFSA to determine if you qualify for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship (new last year).
To receive a Michigan Achievement Scholarship, students must:
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
- If you are a dependent student, your parent must also be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
- Graduate from high school in Michigan with a diploma or a certificate of completion or has achieved high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after.
- Demonstrate financial need when they complete the FAFSA— for Academic Year 2024-25, by having a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less.
- Students who received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship in Academic Year 2023-24, and have completed a 2024-25 FAFSA, shall be considered meeting the financial need component of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for Academic Year 2024-25 regardless of their SAI. Received is defined as:
- A student receiving payment of Michigan Achievement Scholarship, or
- A student who met all eligibility criteria and was certified as exceeds Cost of Attendance (COA)
- Students who received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship in Academic Year 2023-24, and have completed a 2024-25 FAFSA, shall be considered meeting the financial need component of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for Academic Year 2024-25 regardless of their SAI. Received is defined as:
- Enroll full-time at an eligible institution
- Including Michigan community colleges, tribal colleges, and public or private universities.
- Enroll at an eligible institution within 15 months of high school graduation or earning a high school equivalency certificate.
Note: Students are not eligible if they are incarcerated or are in default on a federal

We are excited to share with you that St. Joseph High School now has a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)! The new SJHS PTO is a collaborative partnership between parents, teachers and administrators that works to ensure all students at St. Joseph High School receive a well-rounded, equitable school experience.
Helping our teachers prepare our students for their future educational, career and personal successes is vital to the new PTO’s mission. Our goal is to facilitate strong relationships between students, teachers and families so we can all work together to create a healthy school culture and climate which has been proven to motivate students to learn and stay in school.

Summer Send Off Books
Students should have received their two Summer Send Off books. Many thanks to the SJPS Foundation, Forever Books, and our SJHS library team for making this happen--and thanks to English teachers for distributing the books in class yesterday.

Yearbook News:
The 2022-2023 yearbook has now been distributed to all current 10th-12th graders. Graduated seniors (Class of 2023) can arrange a time to pick up their book in the principal's office during school hours. Extra 22-23 yearbooks ARE available for $70. Contact Ann Essig aessig@sjschools.org
The 2023-2024 yearbook can now be preordered (to arrive in September, 2024) with a sale price of $60 until November 1. Payments can be made online through Herff Jones, the publisher ($5 fee applies) or by cash/check. Additional information is in this form:
SJ Bear Blankets!
St. Joe Bears Blankets in the Athletic Office
You have likely seen SJ fans snuggled up in these blankets at sporting events--if you didn't grab one during previous sales, here's your chance! The Athletic Office has a small supply of these blankets for sale. They are 60"x80", very plush and machine washable. They are $60; cash, check or card accepted. Must be purchased in the Athletic Office--no online sales.
