Congressman Glenn Ivey visits Chesapeake Math & IT North High School
CMIT North High School was honored to welcome Congressman Glenn Ivey for an engaging school tour. During the tour, he interacted with staff, students, and leadership teams. Principal Ms. Gonul Ozturk and Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation CEO Yilmaz Ak were present, both delighted with the visit.
The tour gave Congressman Ivey an in-depth look at the school’s dedication to academic excellence, particularly in STEM education, and its commitment to leadership development. During his time at CMIT North, Congressman Ivey explored the school's cutting-edge STEM labs, classrooms, and a variety of extracurricular programs. He also learned about the school’s impactful partnerships with prestigious institutions such as NASA, the U.S. Naval Academy, the University of Maryland, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the Society for Science.
Students proudly showcased their achievements in organizations like VEX Robotics, Science Olympiad, Student Government, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and many other clubs, underscoring CMIT North’s holistic approach to education and personal growth.
Speaking about the visit, CEO Yilmaz Ak expressed his excitement about the future: “We are thrilled to partner with Congressman Ivey to continue exploring potential solutions that would allow both existing and future charter schools to thrive in Prince George's County."

At Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation, our alumni are our legacy. As we begin a special documentary project to celebrate where life has taken our graduates, we're reaching out to our former students from the classes of 2014-2023 to share their journeys post-graduation.
Whether you've ventured into exciting careers, pursued further education, or made significant contributions to your communities, we want to hear from you. If you're available in the area, we invite you to come in for an interview. For those farther afield, we're equally eager to include you through a video interview.
