Senior Seminar Speaker
University of Michigan
by Lillian Wright
On Friday, October 4th, 2024, I and my fellow students were given the opportunity to talk to the senior admission counselor from the University of Michigan, Gaston Lopez. Lopez described how he moved here and ended up at the University of Michigan admission counselor for the Thumb region.
Lopez started by handing out a pamphlet that allowed us to see the average tuition at the University of Michigan. He also showed us a slideshow which helped the audience to see and visualize how it would feel if you went to the University of Michigan. Lopez went around the room and asked us what career we wanted to pursue along with what we wanted to go into. Almost all of the careers that the class said the University of Michigan had. Lopez also showed the dorms and the campus center around campus. This lets us show where we would be living along with how far away most of our classes are. He also mentioned the sports teams and clubs that Michigan offers to students that go to their school. However, you do have to pay to get into Michigan football, hockey, and basketball games to watch.
One thing that did surprise me was how big their campus was. Along with how many majors they offer on campus and how quickly students get a job offer. The University of Michigan is a very good college that provides a great education and opportunities for students to improve and pursue their education.
