STEM Spotlight STEM Spotlight

Our 1st-grade students are diving into the world of civil engineering, expanding their vocabulary with words like beam, bridge, pier, support, and weights! This week, they are having a blast learning, building, and experimenting to discover what makes a bridge strong and stable. It’s an exciting hands-on experience that’s sparking curiosity and creativity!

“Away for the Day” on Home Technology “Away for the Day” on Home Technology

As a school, we are committed to fostering an engaging and distraction-free learning environment. To support this goal, we follow an "Away for the Day" policy regarding personal technology, including cell phones and smartwatches.

We kindly ask that students refrain from bringing smartwatches that can send and receive text messages to school. Texting during the school day is not permitted, and any smartwatch brought to school must remain in their locker until dismissal. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to disable messaging on smartwatches during school hours.

Thank you for your support and cooperation to this matter.

CORI Process

  • All volunteers must have an up-to-date CORI on file with the Newburyport Elementary Schools.
  • Bring the completed CORI form along with your driver's license to the Administrative Assistant at our school office.
  • Please note CORI's are only valid for three years; after that you must reapply.

Fingerprinting

In keeping with Newburyport's continued focus on safety, volunteers/parents are required to be fingerprinted in two instances:

  1. If you are going on a day or overnight field trip and will have direct and unmonitored contact with children;
  2. If you are a lunchroom volunteer and will be bringing children out to the playground. Parents who volunteer in the classroom DO NOT need to be fingerprinted, if there will always be another adult present.

Massachusetts has contracted with MorphoTrust for fingerprinting. To book an appointment, visit the Massachusetts IdentoGO Website.

Please be aware there is a $35 fee for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting does not expire.

THE 2025 CLIPPER READATHON HAS STARTED!!!

YES, YOU CAN STILL SIGN UP!

The Readathon is in full swing! The halls of the Bres are decked out in banners and pendant flags, the library is bustling with Mrs. Ames’ cozy campouts, and the enthusiasm for reading is palpable! We love this time of year!! A huge thank you to everyone who has registered. We still need more! Last year, we had 777 students registered and right now we have 600. The kids are working together to see which classroom can read the most minutes so this is a team effort!! Registration is completely free and there is no pressure to fundraise for kids. We want everyone to read!!! Register here. Reach out to newburyportpto@gmail.com if you have any trouble. We can help you register and log reading minutes.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR READATHON PAGE TO HELP OUR SCHOOLS!

The readathon is the PTO’s largest fundraiser. We ask parents and families to consider making a pledge to support the PTO. 100% of donations go straight back to our students through enrichment programs, assemblies, field trip transportation, and events like the Fall Festival, 100 Day Celebration, Spring Fling, and Third Grade Celebration. We love seeing all the notes of support from grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors and friends. Let’s cheer our kids on and help our schools!

Do You Want to Get Involved in the PTO?

We are currently seeking to fill PTO Board positions:

  • Vice President

  • Molin Teacher Representative

  • Communications Co-Chair (Social Media)

Email us at newburyportpto@gmail.com to join the PTO Board or ask questions.
