BEH Weekly Family Message
September 23rd, 2024
Last Week in Review
Summary of the Week:
We had a lot of visitors come by BEH last week. Many different district teams came to observe classrooms, meet with staff and connect around how we can best support our BEH community. It is always great to share the work we are doing and engage with thought partners around how we could look at our work through a different lens.
We also started the work of covering teachers so that they could do more professional development around our Science of Reading work. A sub started rotating between classrooms last week and will continue this week to ensure that our teachers can all complete their online portion of the Science of Reading training. This work will connect to our professional development that we will be engaged in this week during our early release.
Thank you all for your continued support in getting your students here everyday on time and working to ensure that they can stay through the end of each school day. We are just finishing up our fall assessments and will be getting even deeper into our targeted academic work with all students in the coming weeks, so this support will be crucial for us to make the academic progress that we plan to this year.
What to Watch for This Week:
Early Release this Wednesday:
This Wednesday, September 25th is our first early release. Students will be excused at 11:50 on that day. Please make sure you plan for the early pick up. If your child rides the school bus, they will run at that time and will drop off at the usual stops just 2 hours and 40 minutes earlier than usual.
Back to School Night:
Our annual Back to School Night is this Thursday, September 26th from 5:00-6:30 PM. We will have pizza for families in the gym and then you will be able to walk the school and meet teachers and support staff. Teachers will be able to share how their classroom routines run and review what a typical schedule is like for your students. This is a great time to ask questions and have your student share about their day with you.
SUN Registration @ Back to School Night:
Ms. Ali will host a SUN information meeting at Back to School Night that families that want to enroll their child in SUN School this fall need to attend. Additionally, the registration will be available to be completed there as well. Make sure you already completed the SEI application before the night as well.
Looking to the Weeks Ahead:

Lockdown Drill:
All PPS schools are doing their Lockdown Drill this month. We are waiting until the last day so that Ms. Eileen can get to all of our lower grades to do a lesson to prep them for this and help to ensure that they know what it is and why we practice this. She is working with PK-2nd grade classrooms to teach them about Sammy the Sasquatch in preparation for our lockdown drill this week. Our teachers at all grade levels will review the lockdown drill again with students this week before we have the drill on Monday. Here is a letter with more info and resources for families.
Principal Connect & Family Friday:
This year we are moving our Principal Connect and Family Friday to the afternoons rather than the morning due to the fact that our school day starts earlier this year. Families are invited to join Mr. Kaveh in the staff lounge at 2:00 to connect around what we are working on at BEH and ask any questions you may have. At 2:30, we will break to allow for dismissal and then families are invited to join us back in the gym for some games and snacks with other BEH families. These will continue to be on our first Friday of each month. Our next meeting will be next Friday, October 4th. We hope to see you then.
