SMMS Weekly Update
March 1, 2024
WVGSA Writing Test Scheduled
On March 12, SMMS students will complete the writing portion of the West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA). Please help your student DO THEIR BEST ON THE TEST by making sure they get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.
We will run a modified schedule that day; testing should conclude by 10:00 a.m.
If your student is part of the virtual school or our BCS Homebound program, please plan to bring your student to school on March 12 at 7:40 a.m. to complete the writing assessment. Email Mr. Bennett (a.bennett@k12.wv.us) with any questions.
Supporting One of Our Own
As you may know, a member of our SMMS family, Scarlett Fuller, was diagnosed with a serious illness last Friday. In the coming weeks, you will notice we are going to be offering opportunities for our families to support her. So far, we have worked with community members to coordinate the following projects:
- Custom Bracelet: This week at lunch, we pre-sold the custom bracelets. On the first day, we sold more than 400! Bracelets will arrive next week and will be delivered via homerooms. Thanks to Mr. Bennett for donating the bracelets for sale.
- Leukemia Awareness T-Shirt: Beginning Monday, we will be pre-selling t-shirts, the proceeds of which will benefit Scarlett and her family. Each shirt will be $10. We would also like to take a school-wide picture once we all receive our shirts. Thanks to Mr. Clark for helping to organize this project.
Please demonstrate compassion and empathy as we take this journey together.
Wilson College Softball Cancer Awareness Fundraiser
Our very own Mr. Scheller is coaching at Wilson College and shared this opportunity as well.
- When: April 14th, 2024
- Where: Wilson College Softball Field (see map attached)
- What: Games begin at 1pm, pre-game honoring will begin at 12:30
We will be honoring Scarlett Fuller at the game, and she (or someone in her honor) will throw out the first pitch. She will also be serving as our team manager this year.
Math Skills Workshops Offered
We are offering a series of workshops to focus on re-teaching specific math content for our students. The sessions are completely optional and will occur on Mondays after school from 2:30-3:30.
