Term 2 Conference will be held on Thursday, December 8th. Parents will have the option to choose either a virtual or in-person conference with teachers. Both our in-person and virtual (Microsoft Teams) Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please note, a separate School Messenger will follow with detailed information regarding how to sign up.

Important Date Reminders:

December 1st - Start scheduling your conferences at 10:00 am

December 8th - Conference Manager closes for bookings at 10:00 am

December 8th Parent Teacher conferences:

• 4:00 pm – 5:45 pm Virtual conferences via Microsoft Teams
• 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm In-person conferences at LOHS

The Lake Orion High School Parent Group is s looking for donations to help feed our staff before Parent Teacher Conferences begin on Thursday, December 8th. If you are able to donate any soft drinks, waters, baked goods, etc, please consider signing up on our sign up genius. We are also looking for parents to help clean up after conferences.

Our staff at Lake Orion High School is tremendous and the holidays are one time of the year to let them know how thankful we are for their dedication to our kids! They work long hours... coming in early, staying well past dinnertime, not to mention the countless evening and weekend hours spent grading, assessing and compiling lesson plans! All this work leaves them little time to plan for the holidays with their own family, so LOHS families would like to help them out by providing Christmas cookies. We are requesting 3 dozen homemade cookies from our families that would like to donate. For allergy purposes, please also bring in a copy of the recipe! Deliver them to LOHS Dec. 19 and 20 between 7am-3pm. The staff will get to partake in a Christmas buffet of cookies, creating a platter to take home to share with their families this season! (When delivering, there will be a table at the front doors for drop off). Please sign up so that we may plan ahead and thank you in advance for sharing the joy of the season with all our teachers and staff!

On November 16, 2022, three Lake Orion High School student-athletes signed a national letter of-intent to play college athletics. The three students were celebrated by family, friends and staff at a signing ceremony in the auditorium lobby prior to the school day.

Nina Horning will be a volleyball player at Cincinnati, Quinn McElroy will play lacrosse for Grand Valley State University, and Sophia Shonts will be on the ice hockey team at Adrian College.

Welding students under the mentorship of OSTC Instructor Steve Langdon, completed at the 31st Annual Washtenaw Community College Welding Invitational on Nov 4th. These OSTC-NE students competed against nine other schools in seven welding categories, including: overall welding, Arc, TIG, and OXY/Fuel Torch and Plasma Cutting.

Congratulations to Edwin Morris for earning 1st place in Advanced TIG Welding and Reed Garris who earned 2nd in Advanced Torch and Plasma Cutting.

Additionally, 12 of the OSTC NE campus, 2nd year welding students completed against the OSTC SW and NW campuses at the annual Local 25 Ironworkers competition held at the Wixom Training Facility on Thursday, November 17th. Our Lake Orion Students fared well again!

Congratulations Ryan Marks for 1st place and Vincent Fricke who earned 3rd!

Our Diabetic Ambassador’s Club set up every 1st and 3rd Friday at all lunches. During this time, our students are selling happy stickers for $2.00; the funds raised will be donated to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research).

Our annual Can Drive is approaching quickly!

We are kicking it off Wednesday, November 30th and it will continue until Friday, December 16th. Encourage your students to participate! Students will be competing with the other 1st hour classes for a chance to earn a hot breakfast (pancakes & bacon)!

Students should bring the non-perishable food to their 1A class. They’ll also have a few opportunities per week to drop the cans off before school.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer launched a new webpage to help the graduating class of 2023 apply for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and lower their cost of college by thousands of dollars a year. Students should talk to their parents or guardian, gather documents, and fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to save up to $8,250 over three years as they earn their associate degree at a community college, up to $20,000 over five years at a private college, or up to $27,500 over five years at a public university.

See "2023 Senior Parent Ads" for information and instructions on how to place an ad. The deadline is Friday, December 16, 2022. We encourage early submissions because space is limited. Ads submitted after this deadline cannot be guaranteed a place in the yearbook.

• Senior parent ads

We have started utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.

On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.

OK2SAY is available state-wide for public and private schools in Michigan; anybody can submit a confidential tip. Specially trained technicians receive the tips and filter the information to the appropriate agency to provide a timely and effective response.
