As we transition our junior class into their senior year, there is an event for them to attend next week. Pacifica Presentations are May 28, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seaside Convention Center. This is a required attendance event for all junior students. The junior class needs to see the different senior project options, observe what their requirements will be for graduation next year, and support the senior class as they pass one of the last benchmarks before graduation. All juniors will need to check in with Mrs. Baertlein to confirm attendance at the event.

Juniors should arrive at the Convention Center between 4:45 and 4:50 p.m. to check in with Mrs. Baertlein and then get seating for the Keynote Speaker, who begins promptly at 5 p.m.

The Seaside Seagulls are your 4A State Champions in boys golf! Led by Xanh Quang, who placed 3rd individually, the team staged an impressive Day 2 comeback at Tokatee Golf Club to claim the title. Senior Madden Wunderlich was a key part of the rally, jumping to 10th place with an incredible second-round score of 74.

Team members Alex Arden (12), Logan Norman (12), Landon Nofield (11), Madden Wunderlich (12), and Xanh Quang (11) brought home the trophy under the leadership of Coaches Jim Poetsch and Ed Arden.

This is Seaside’s fifth state golf championship—and first since 2015. Way to go, Gulls!

Parent/Guardian Volunteers Needed for SMS Field Day!

We’re excited to host our annual SMS Field Day on Friday, May 30 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the SMS Track & Field, and we need your help to make it a success! If you’re available to volunteer, we’d love for you to join us for an afternoon of fun, games, and school spirit. Your support makes events like this possible—and memorable—for our students.

End of the year medication pick up:

Parents and Guardians: If you have dropped off any medication for your student in the health room this year, please remember that you need to pick it up on or before the last day of school. All medications will be disposed of per district policy after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. This includes inhalers and epi-pens. No medications will be stored in the schools over the summer. Medications must be picked up by a parent or guardian. We will not send home medications with students. Please reach out to Nurse Dani at 503-738-5586 with any questions.

Well Child Checks and Immunizations:

Summer is a great time to schedule doctor’s appointments to get caught up on wellness visits, immunizations and/or chronic health condition management. If your student has a health plan at school, please plan on visiting your provider over the summer so we can start the new school year in the fall with current plans of care for your student. Information about required immunizations, medication forms, OHP contacts and other helpful health information can be found on our district’s Health Services page on the website. We’re excited to offer our 7th-grade students a special field trip to The Times Theater to watch the 1983 film The Outsiders as a culminating activity for their Language Arts class. This experience connects directly to the novel they’ve been studying and brings the story to life on the big screen! Please take a moment to complete the digital permission slip so your student can join us for this memorable event. Permission slips are due by Monday, June 2. Thank you for your support!

On Friday, May 9, middle school students had the exciting opportunity to engage with New York Times Bestselling Author Aiden Thomas! During this special event, students heard about Aiden’s journey as a writer, gained insight into the creative process, and asked thoughtful questions about their books and inspiration. It was an inspiring experience that encouraged young readers and writers to embrace their own stories and voices. To learn more about Aiden's work, check out their website!

Seaside School Transportation is introducing the My Ride K12 app, giving parents and guardians real-time access to their student’s bus schedule, location, and routing.

Last Friday, 7th-grade students enjoyed a fun and educational field trip to the Oregon Zoo! They explored a variety of animal exhibits, deepened their understanding of wildlife conservation, and made lasting memories with classmates and staff. ParentVUE is different than ParentSquare. ParentVue is used to register your student and view assignments and grades. If you can't remember your ParentVue login information please contact our main office at 503-738-5586.

Through ParentVue you can:

• Register your student each school year
• View your students classes
• Check your students grades and status of any assignments
• Communicate with your students teachers
• And much much more!

For even more convenience you can download the ParentVue app (available for free for iOS and Android devices).

If you are driving yourself to school you need to stop by the Main Office and fill out a parking permit application so that you can receive your student parking permit sticker.

Student parking is only permitted on the East/Mountain side of the building. Students are not allowed to park in the staff parking lot on the ocean side of the building.

Office hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Reminder when parking on our steep hill to curb your tires to help avoid any accidental rolling.

Please be at your bus stop 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled pick-up time. Bus times vary due to traffic levels. Bus route information is posted on our school website. See link above.

During the 2024-2025 school year we will again be using our bus badge program. This program increases the safety of our students on our buses by allowing us to know who is on the bus at all times and at which stop they exited.

Here's how it works. Student ID Bus Badge utilizes an ID attached to a student’s backpack or a lanyard which communicates with the Bus Pass scanner located on the bus. Students will scan the badge as students enter and exit the bus instead of having to take paper pencil attendance.

If you prefer to opt your bus rider out of this program please complete this form. It is important to note that students who opt-out of the electronic monitoring portion of the program will still need to show their Student ID Bus Pass to ride a district school bus. Their badge will just not have an active barcode to scan.

Have you lost or damaged your Student ID? No problem! Simply fill out the below form to request a replacement.

Q: My student needs to ride the bus home with another student today - what should I do?

A: We must have requests in writing, preferably no later than noon, and are unable to accept permission over the phone. Instead you may:

Send your student with a note to give to the Main Office in the morning with the date, the name of the student your student will be riding with, and your contact information.

OR

You may email the request to sgiess@seasidek12.org or kbrenden@seasidek12.org If you need further assistance please call the main office at (503)738-5586.

If you will need to pick up your student before the school day ends, please send them in the morning with a note to the Main Office. That way we can have your student ready for pickup at the time you need them.

To avoid receiving the automated attendance call if your student is absent, please contact the Main Office as soon as possible at 503-738-5586

The Main Office hours are Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm.

If your student has medical issues or needs to take medications during the school day, we need to hear from you ASAP! The medications will need to be delivered to the main office by the parent/guardian (NOT the student). We will ask the parent to complete forms for each medication your student takes. Even if your student has medication they need to keep with them during the school day i.e.: inhaler or epi pen or if your student takes an over the counter medication ie: cough drops or Advil, we need to have a parent signed form on file.

For our 7th grade students: Please be aware that all 7th graders need a Tdap booster as part of their required immunizations to attend school. If your student has not yet had that booster, please contact your primary care provider for this immunization. Immunization exclusion day comes in mid February where all students must be up to date, or have an exemption in place, to avoid school exclusion.

There are many ways a volunteer can help in our schools: reading groups, mentoring, assisting in a library or cafeteria, school beautification projects, coaching, field trips, and much more.

ALL VOLUNTEERS must first complete an application and background check to create a profile in the district-wide Volunteer Management System. Once a profile is created, volunteers will be able to update personal information, view and sign up for volunteer needs, and communicate with the school(s).

Please keep in mind that background checks may take more than five business days to be processed. If you have already completed a background check at one of our schools you do not need to complete one for additional schools. Just let us know that you've already completed a background check at a different school and we'll get you switched.

The McKinney-Vento (formerly Title X) Homeless Program does not just serve families living in shelters or cars but all students who do not have a fixed, regular, or adequate living situation. We need your help to identify these students!

When children are hungry, they aren't able to focus on the job of learning. The Food4Kids Seaside Program is available to help and is offered to students at Seaside Secondary School (grades 6-12) who do not have access to consistent meals on the weekends. Food is fuel, and we want to help your child be fueled and ready to learn each week!

The volunteers at Food4Kids provide a bag filled with food on the last school day before each weekend. Students will bring this food home from school on Fridays.
