Community Celebration Recap
We thank the hundreds of community members who joined LASD and LAEF at Covington Elementary to celebrate our nine outstanding neighborhood schools on May 7! Check out photos and more information on the event on the LAEF website.
The day was filled with fun and community spirit, where parents, teachers, staff and neighbors all joined together for music, food, games and activities.
The celebration was to honor our nine amazing schools and the Los Altos Educational Foundation's 40th anniversary. Since its founding in 1982, LAEF has raised over $56M in support of LASD. LAEF funding provides essential teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and the Arts. Each year, LAEF continues to raise money to keep our schools strong.
Thanks for joining us and we look forward to celebrating with you again!
Thank you for joining us at our Spring Concerts!
After months of practicing and preparing, students at all grade levels at each of our elementary schools held a Spring Concert to showcase our students' musical skills!
The Los Altos School District music program inspires an appreciation for music, while increasing student knowledge and developing skills. Students in grade K-3 participate in weekly lessons customized to each elementary school site and supported by the school's PTA. Fourth graders learn both vocal and instrumental skills as they learn to play the recorder. In grade 5, in addition to students working on their vocal skills the first half of the year, they begin to learn an instrument to play in the band or orchestra. Sixth graders continue to hone their instrumental skills and get the opportunity to play in concert with the junior high school students.
At our Spring Concerts, some students performed with musical instruments, and others showed off their vocal talents. It was a wonderful month of student performances, where families joined us to see our kids shine on stage and show off all they have learned this year.
