Principal's Message
Happy 2024 Hawks!
See below for a bunch of pictures from our Dec. 22nd assembly. We had a great time with trivia, music, recognitions and a bunch of staff got a pie to the face. Being on the receiving end of two pies I can state that I never realized how bad whipped cream smells and stays with you : )
As we enter into the new year we have a bunch of upcoming school wide events.
- MAP testing January 8 ELA and January 10th Math with makeup days to follow and we will be running our testing schedules on these two days.
- January 14: we have our last Skateland PBIS Fundraiser from 5:30 - 8:00pm
- January 26: we will be hosting our 2nd Recreation Night at the Horning Gym from 6:00 - 8:00 pm
- January 30: Donation Night at Cousins Subs (2320 E. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha) 4:00 - 8:00pm
- Scheduling for next year will be ramping up in the coming weeks. The Middle School course catalog has been added to all middle schoolers iPads and can be found on our website here.
Farewell to Officer James
January 5th marked the last day at Horning for our SRO, Officer James Wolbert. He has been an incredible asset to our Horning community and will be very greatly missed. The students all gathered in the hallways to wish him farewell and to honor him for all that he has done for our school. It was quite the send-off-see photos below! We wish him nothing but the best. Thank you, Officer James!
Fun at the grade level assemblies
Both students and staff had a great time at the grade level assemblies that were held before winter break. Throwing pies at the staff was a favorite activity! Here is a glimpse into the fun:
Future Cities

PBIS
It will be implemented at all three middle schools in Waukesha this year. PBIS works to explicitly teach behavioral expectations to students in a proactive manner and also to celebrate students who are making good choices. Lessons will be done through Advisory this year and within the classroom when needed.
Bell Schedule for the 2023-24 School Year
All students will begin the day with Advisory and receive instruction in all four core academic areas each day of the week
Each class with be 44 minutes in length with the exception of blocked ELA and Math which will be double that time
Attendance and Electronics Reminders
Attendance:
Attendance is extremely important.
Our school wide expectation is that every student is arriving to their scheduled class on time prior to the start of class bell. This will ensure that active learning time is maximized and students are receiving the best learning environment possible.
Students have 3 minutes to transition from one class to the next. This time should be used to prepare for their upcoming class.
Students are able to access their lockers before school, before lunch, after lunch, and at the end of the school day. Students should be utilizing these opportunities to prepare themselves for their early/late classes.
Please do your best to make sure that your technology (iPad) is charged and ready to go at the start of the day. This will ensure classroom time is maximized for learning.
Cell Phone:
The School District of Waukesha has in place a cell phone policy that requires cell phones to be placed in their locker upon entering the school building. The phone should be turned off and left in their locker until they leave at the end of the school day.
Thank you all for helping support us in a successful school year. Working together we can accomplish great things.
