Lamkin Lines
September 7, 2023
From The Principal
Our first week of school was fantastic! We enjoyed seeing all the smiles and hearing about summer fun. We are thrilled to welcome 860+ students to school each day. Our students and staff had a wonderful first week of school meeting new friends, learning routines and following their daily schedule. We at Lamkin look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure the best year for your child. Thank you for reading this newsletter and looking through the attachments to stay “in the know” with what is happening at Lamkin!
Bus Transportation
- Please ensure that your child has their personal badge attached to their backpack to badge in each time they board or disembark from the bus. This is a requirement for 2023-24. We are working hard to ensure that all students have a badge by the end of this week.
- Starting on 9/11/2023- no badge=no ride home on the bus.
- At dismissal, our buses arrive for loading in shifts. Once the bus arrives, our goal is to load in 8-10 minutes.
- Use the app- Traversa 360, to see real time bus information. https://www.cfisd.net/Page/8531
- All students must wear seatbelts while on the bus.
Car Riders: Our car rider line is very long due to increased traffic in our area, and we have a system in place to keep it moving as quickly as possible while keeping safety our number one priority.
- Please make sure to leave your car tag displayed throughout the entire process. Please review your car tag number with your child so that he/she recognizes the number when it is called.
- We have a staff member near the middle of the line recording the order of the cars and it is very important that all drivers join the line at the end and not in the middle. This messes up the student order and takes longer to load students.
- Students need to be ready to exit the car in the morning as soon as you are pulled up in the unloading zone.
Safety Drills: We have started practicing safety drills so that students are prepared in the event of an emergency. Fire drills are conducted monthly and other drills are one-two times per year. The drills are announced prior to beginning so that students are aware that there is not a true emergency.
UPCOMING Parent Academy/Open House: We welcome you and your child(ren) to grade level open house nights at Lamkin. Your attendance is encouraged and important to facilitate communication between home and school. One of the night’s highlights is that your student will take you on a scavenger hunt throughout the building!
- Tuesday, September 12, 2023- 6:00-7:00pm for kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, Life Skills and NAC
- Tuesday, September 19, 2023- 6:00-7:00pm for ECSE, PK, 1st, 3rd, and 5th
- Parking is allowed in the front, back and on the side of Lamkin. We cannot wait to connect with you!
Lunch Visitors: We look forward to allowing parent/guardian visitors for lunches beginning the week of September 19h.
- We will allow lunch visitors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
- Please call the front desk prior to the day you wish to visit to reserve your spot. Due to space constraints and safety protocols, we will limit the number of lunch visitors. Please make sure to call and check availability before coming to Lamkin for lunch. 281-897-4775
We look forward to a successful year at Lamkin full of fun, learning and growing. In September, our students will learn about “concern for the common good” and “empathy” during their class meetings, end of day announcements and Launch class (gr K-5). We are committed to “Bringing out the Best in our Lamkin Leopards!”
We are LamkinD!

House Bill 114, e-cigarettes
In the 2023-2024 school year, students found in possession of, using, selling, giving, or delivering e-cigarettes on school grounds or at a school-related event will receive a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) placement.
The 88th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 114 (HB 114) in response to the growing concerns surrounding e-cigarettes and vaping among young people.
It is essential that you take a moment to discuss the implications of this new law with your students. Emphasize to them the utmost importance of adhering to school policies and laws, not only for their own welfare but also for the betterment of the entire school community. Please be aware that the term "e-cigarette" encompasses any component, part, or accessory for the vaping device, not solely the cartridge containing nicotine, THC, or other substances.
To further support the well-being of our students, Lamkin Elementary will be reinforcing vaping awareness and educational programs. We encourage parents to actively engage in open discussions with their students, guiding them towards making responsible choices for their health and future.
We deeply appreciate your cooperation and support in ensuring that Cypress-Fairbanks ISD remains a safe, healthy, and thriving educational environment for all students. Your partnership is invaluable, and together, we can foster a positive and secure learning environment that nurtures the growth and success of every student.

Bring a Water Bottle
Make sure your child brings a water bottle with their name on it every day. We have refill stations on campus so they always have access to water. It's important that they stay hydrated and having their own water bottle will help.
Science Wish List
Please help stock our Science supplies to get our year up and running! You can send it to school with your student and label it SCIENCE! Thank you for generosity!
Renew Your Free or Reduced Meal Status
If you haven't already done so, please go on-line and renew your child's free or reduced meal status. This has to be done every year! Right now you are in a temporary grace period, so if you were receiving free/reduced meals last year, your child/children are in that grace period now.
This year, grace period ends on October 10th. This means all students who qualified for Free/Reduced meals last year AND have not completed an application this year, will revert to PAID meals.
You can use the QR code below, or go to http://www.schoolcafe.com to renew your status or call 281-897-4550 if you have any questions or need assistance.
Lunch Visitor Policy
Beginning Tuesday, September 19th, we will be open to visitors for lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Students may have up to 2 visitors each. If the visitor is not a parent or legal guardian, we must have a note from the parent/guardian of the student giving permission for the visitor. The note must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian.
- We are going to limit the visitor number per grade level and lunch time to 8 students.
- Reservations will be required and will be taken beginning the Monday of each week. Call 281-897-4775 to make the reservation.
- We will take a wait list, so if you are unable to keep your visit time, please let us know so we can offer it to the next family on the waitlist.
- All visitors will need their photo ID and will be badged in using our Raptor/V-soft system
- Food brought from outside can be given to your child only. You may not purchase food or feed other students without a written note from the parent/guardian of that student.
