The Champion Chatt
October 2024
A Message from the Principal
Champions,
We hope all families were able to find time during Fall Break to be together making memories which will energize the months ahead. As we welcome October, we also welcome the season of change. The changing colors of the leaves in fall mirror the changes in our students as they learn new skills and content, the changes in our staff as they build on the classroom communities they have established from the first day, and the changes in our families as they find ways to support our school community.
We are thankful to the many new faces of our visitors who are joining us for lunch, as well as serving as classroom volunteers and Watch Dog Dads. With safety always at the forefront, thank you for coming to the school prepared with your I.D., checking in at the front office and keeping to the intended location of your visit. Our cafeteria is seeing a record number of visitors which is a delight to students and staff. We appreciate you enjoying this time with your Champion in a technology-free space and ask that visitors refrain from taking photos or video while in the cafeteria or at the parent tables just outside of the café.
We value your partnership! As we close out Quarter One, we look forward to seeing parents and guardians during conferences. We are excited to share student progress and to team with families to support the continued growth for all Champion students. October 18th is our Online Learning Day in Canvas so that teachers can meet with families for conferences. Students will not come to school but will work from home. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us.
A big THANK YOU to all of the families who supported our recent Champ Strong PTO fundraiser. We surpassed our goal and raised a total of 15,138.00 dollars. Please plan to join our PTO on Movie Night (10/11) as they share out the many ways these funds support the students, staff and families at Chattahoochee.
We look forward to seeing you all in the halls and at the many upcoming special events listed below…..especially the 2024 One East Fall Festival (October 24) at East Forsyth High School!
With sincere appreciation,
Jill

What's Going on in the Classrooms?
Parent Teacher Conferences
At Chattahoochee Elementary, we believe a strong foundation in math and literacy is key to your child's academic success. During the early years, our math curriculum fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, helping students build fluency in numbers, patterns, and operations. In literacy, we focus on developing reading comprehension, phonics, and writing abilities to nurture confident readers and effective communicators. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child's growth in these essential areas! Below are a few questions you may consider asking your child's teacher at your conference:
1. How is my child progressing in math and literacy compared to grade-level expectations?
2. What are my child's strengths and areas for improvement in reading and math?
3. How can I support my child’s learning at home? Are there specific resources or activities you recommend?
4. How does my child handle challenges or frustrations in both math and literacy?
5. Is my child actively engaged in math and reading lessons, and how do they interact with their peers during collaborative tasks?
Technology
Forsyth County Schools is partnering with Neptune Navigate to provide lessons focusing on digital citizenship. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all our students. During the month of October, we are focusing on the important topic of cyberbullying.
In our lessons, students will learn what cyberbullying is, how to recognize it, and the impact it can have on individuals. We will also discuss effective strategies for preventing and responding to cyberbullying, emphasizing the importance of kindness and respect both online and offline. Our Champions are Upstanders!
We encourage you to continue the conversation with your children about their online experiences and to foster an environment where they feel comfortable discussing any concerns. Together, we can work towards ensuring that our digital spaces are safe and welcoming for everyone.
Forsyth County Schools has an Online Learning Day on Friday, October 18. Students will stay home and complete assignments that their teachers publish in their Canvas course. Teachers will be holding parent conferences on this day.
On October 18, students should login to Canvas and access their homeroom teacher's course. They will look for a button that says Online Learning Day. This button will direct them to the assignments for the day. Students will complete assignments in ELA, Math, Science or Social Studies, and their Pathways class. If you have any questions about assignments, please contact your child's teacher OR support teacher as indicated on the day's plans.
Students will participate in a practice Online Learning Day on October 9 to help them navigate Canvas and feel comfortable completing activities. Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions.
Family Engagement
We love seeing families in our building! Thank you for joining us at Curriculum Night and sharing time with your child’s teacher. We value our partnership and spending time as a Chattahoochee community is a pleasure. We hope your child is enjoying his/her Brain Quest Smart Cards! It’s been wonderful seeing pictures and hearing about how our students are enjoying the cards. Please email Kim Sarfaty at ksarfaty@forsyth.k12.ga.us to share pictures of your child using the cards! We would love to see our kids using these!
It’s been wonderful having visitors join us for lunch, and we’ve enjoyed having our Watch D.O.G.S. serving as positive role models throughout the school. We have added additional days to accommodate more volunteers. We are thankful for your serving heart and helpful hands in your child’s classroom and throughout our building. Together, we are better.
We are excited about our upcoming PTO Movie Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and the One East Fall Festival. We look forward to seeing you soon! Please contact Belinda or Kim if we can help in any way.
