Latest Lincoln Happenings
This week we were able to have 5 consecutive days of school. Fortunately, the weather cooperated. I look forward to another full week next week. Then we will celebrate Presidents day with a three day weekend. I know that having the snow days, Polar Vortex, and holidays have caused some disruption in the flow of our return in January, yet our students and staff have been consistent with making every moment count while your children are here at Lincoln. Consistent attendance is a critical piece to the success for your child's education along with working at home at reading daily. I am including the reading goals for the Ozzie reading program that came home with your child this week.
Ozzie reading-Forms for the Ozzie reading incentive was sent home this week. Below are the goals specific to your child's grade level. These are weekly goals and in parenthesis are the bi-weekly goals because the form covers two weeks.
Kindergarten- 100 minutes per week (200 for the form)
First Grade-100 minutes per week (200 for the form)
Second Grade-100 minutes per week (200 for the form)
Third Grade- 120 minutes per week (240 for the form)
Fourth Grade-140 minutes per week (280 for the form)
Fifth Grade-210 minutes per week (420 for the form)
Your child’s safety is our primary concern. The standard procedure is that a note is to be sent with your child on the morning of any change in that day’s dismissal. The office can only accept any dismissal changes prior to 2:30 pm.
Random Acts Matter--
Random Acts Matter. Our Second annual Paint the Town Orange in kindness kicks off next week, February 11th-17th. We have some fun things planned for this week at Lincoln. We also want to recognize and be involved with this initiative.
Tuesday-Write a note to a special person outside of school, like a coach, a scout leader, a piano teacher, someone who has helped or supported you.
Wednesday-WEAR orange!! In support of Random Acts Matter Paint the town Orange-wear orange and give a word of encouragement or thanks to your bus driver, crossing guard, lunchroom supervisors, or someone at school.
Thursday- Valentines Day- K-2 will have their classroom parties. Details found from classroom newsletters.
Friday-Say thanks at home. Always remember your family. Do something special at home. Help clean up, add notes to your sibling's lunches, or help shovel.
AT Math News
Dear Parents of Students in 3rd-5th grade:
In the winter of every school year, we start the process of determining the placement of students in our Academically Talented Math (AT) Program, Academically Talented Literacy (AT) Program, and Middle School Infinity Program for the following school year. The timeline for this school year is as follows:
Parents will be notified the week of February 25 if their child qualifies for placement testing based on Performance Series and CogAT assessment data
For students who qualify for placement testing, the tests will be administered the week of March 11
Families will be notified of AT and Infinity placement decisions the week after spring break
Families must submit appeals forms no later than April 19
Appeals prompts and interviews will occur April 22-May 3
Parents will receive appeals decisions the week of May 10
If you have any questions about the placement timeline or programming, please contact Dr. Cindy Ruesch, Director of Staff, Family and Student Services at cindy.ruesch@d303.org or 331-228-6738.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration has already begun. Lincoln’s website is conveniently linked to all of the incoming kindergarten registration forms. This site will give you access to all the forms necessary for registering your child. This has been very helpful to expedite the registration process and has been well received by parents! There is also a helpful “All Day Kindergarten FAQ” on this site as well. Please pass this information on to any incoming kindergarten families that are in your neighborhood.
