Robotics Celebration Parade 2025
This month, Haleʻiwa Elementary School students had the honor of celebrating their incredible Robotics Team. Our staff members generously volunteered their time to drive (in their awesome trucks) and parade our 5th and 6th grade robotics team in front of the students on the school’s field. The excitement and pride were palpable as the students cheered for their peers.
To add even more excitement to the event, the Waialua High School Band, led by Band Director Mr. Ian Cablay, came down to entertain our students with their fantastic performance, spreading joy and energy across the field.
The event culminated with our Robotics Coach and Mentor, Mr. Haiola, speaking to the audience about the remarkable accomplishments of our 5th and 6th grade teams. We are thrilled to announce that Mr. Haiola’s 6th grade team has been crowned State Champions for the 4th consecutive year! This incredible achievement means that they will travel to Dallas to participate in this year’s World Robotics Championship.
A heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Haiola and his team for their dedication, perseverance, and success! We are incredibly proud of all the hard work they’ve put in.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude and thanks to everyone who has supported Haleʻiwa Elementary School’s Robotics Team. A special mahalo goes to Mr. Ian Cablay and the Waialua High School Band for adding such excitement to the event and for their continued support.

5th Graders at NOAA Inouye Regional Center
The 5th graders experienced an enriching tour of the Inouye Regional Center, made possible by the Hawaii Science Teaching Association (HaSTA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The tour highlights included:
- Science on a Sphere (SOS), a six-foot animated globe which displays real-time data like weather and climate simulations
- Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), where we learned about tsunami monitoring, alerts, and the impact of rising sea levels
- Fisheries Dry Labs/MAKER Lab offered us a glimpse into deep-sea creatures
- NOAA Career Exploration, with students trying on NOAA uniforms and learning about diverse scientific professions
Intramural Basketball Event
On March 27, 2025, Haleʻiwa Elementary School joined the Mililani Complex Elementary Schools for a mixed-gender basketball event. Our 4th - 6th grade students had a blast competing and connecting with their peers from other elementary schools. It was an exciting and memorable experience for everyone involved!
The event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their athletic skills, build friendships, and experience friendly competition with others from neighboring schools.
We would like to extend a big mahalo to our dedicated coaches:
Coach Mrs. Mary Villalpando
Coach Mr. Tony Agsalda
Coach Mrs. Michelle Clark
Thank you for your tireless efforts, your commitment to student success, and for making this event such a fun and impactful experience for our students!
Attendance Week
From March 24th to March 28th, Haleʻiwa Elementary School celebrated Attendance Week with a week full of fun themes that encouraged student participation. Each day featured a different theme that added excitement to the event and highlighted the importance of showing up to school every day.
The goal of Attendance Week was to promote the critical role that regular school attendance plays in a student’s academic success, social development, and future opportunities. Attending school consistently helps students build a strong foundation for learning, actively participate in classroom discussions, and develop meaningful relationships with their peers and teachers.
By making regular attendance a priority, students also learn valuable life skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and time management. These skills contribute to a strong work ethic, which is essential for success in school and beyond, in any career path they choose to follow.
We hope this week served as a reminder of how crucial school attendance is for both academic and personal growth. Let's continue to encourage our students to attend school every day, ready to learn and thrive!
