The Sedro-Woolley High School Choirs recently delivered an unforgettable concert on Wednesday, showcasing their talent through a diverse selection of choral pieces, solos, and instrumental performances.

The Chamber Choir opened the evening with Away From the Roll of the Sea and Paper Crane (Heiwa), captivating the audience with their rich harmonies.

The Solo & Ensemble portion featured beautiful performances, including Wild Mountain Thyme, sung by Elyssa Hoyer, Phoenix Vinzant, Bailey Pritchard, Alexis Wiley, Lauren Jellison, and Kylee Gustafson. Aislynn Naeyaert also delivered a breathtaking solo of Amarilli Mia Bella.

The Concert Choir brought energy and emotion to the stage with Ahrirang, featuring student instrumentalists on flute and percussion, followed by a powerful performance of Storm and an uplifting finale with Rhythm of Life.

The Sedro-Woolley High School Orchestra brought music to life today with performances at Samish and Evergreen elementary schools. Under the direction of Poul Brask, the orchestra played three pieces, including The Lord, The Lady, and The Jester.

Brask also introduced students to various instruments, with high school musicians performing well-known movie themes to demonstrate how music shapes storytelling. He explained that most people feel strong connections to movies because of their music—without it, films wouldn’t be the same!

Students interested in learning an instrument can join orchestra starting in sixth grade at Cascade Middle School. Orchestra is offered to sixth grade students as a zero-hour class before the regular elementary school day begins. 🎶

Former Evergreen Elementary School students were excited to share their musical experience with current students on Wednesday.

What an incredible day for our Latinos in Action students at the LIA Conference at WWU! This event was a powerful reminder of the impact of education, community, and perseverance.

Spring sports are in full swing, and we want to recognize the hard work that has gone into preparing Janicki Playfields and the high school stadium! Despite the challenges of wet weather, Paul Swanson, Jeff Robinson, and our grounds crew put in countless hours to support our student-athletes.

We also appreciate the efforts of coaches, boosters, and parents who have stepped up to help—it truly takes a team!

The Sedro-Woolley School District Transportation Department has once again demonstrated its commitment to safety and efficiency, passing its recent Washington State Patrol inspection with outstanding results.

The inspection, which included 43 school buses, resulted in only one temporary "Out of Service" designation due to a rubber mallet left in a storage compartment. This minor issue was immediately resolved, and the bus was promptly returned to service. In addition, 14 support vehicles underwent inspection, with only one—the CTE truck—briefly taken out of service due to low air pressure in a tire. The issue was quickly fixed, and the truck was back on the road without delay.

"I am proud to announce that the guys in the shop did an excellent job with inspections," said Tracy Gugel, Transportation Director. "Their hard work and attention to detail ensure that our students travel safely every day."

The Sedro-Woolley School District extends its gratitude to the mechanics on the transportation team for their ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable fleet for our students and staff.

A huge thank you to Property Trio for donating the crew and tractor, and to the Sedro-Woolley Rotary for donating $5,000 to the baseball boosters to build a new concrete pad for the varsity baseball bullpen! Your generosity and support help make these improvements possible for our student-athletes.

We appreciate all who contribute to making our facilities better—it truly takes a team!

This month, our maintenance team completed preventative maintenance on emergency fire lights and exit signs at Cascade Middle School. They inspected all lights, replaced backup batteries where needed, and identified units requiring repair or replacement.

This ongoing effort helps ensure our schools remain safe and prepared in case of an emergency. Thank you to our maintenance team for their hard work!

An exciting free online program is now available for families with children ages 10–14. Open to all families, this virtual experience is designed to help your family shine by boosting communication, fostering healthy habits, providing practical tools for parenting teens, and creating lasting memories—all while having fun together!

Reminder: Sixth graders in the Sedro-Woolley School District have the opportunity to attend Camp Orkila on Orcas Island from April 22–25, 2025! This experience brings students from all seven elementary schools together for three nights of adventure, learning, and team-building in the breathtaking San Juan Islands.

Camp Orkila, established in 1906, is a YMCA camp dedicated to fostering youth development, and environmental education. Students will engage in hands-on learning experiences such as marine and forest ecology, sustainability, and earth sciences—all aligned with state learning standards. Activities include exploring plankton under microscopes, playing an interactive food web game in the forest, and conquering the 50-foot climbing tower.

If your student needs medication at camp, Please have the medication order form along with medications to the school nurse by April 15.

Get ready for a fun-filled day of fishing! The Wildcat Steelhead Club’s annual Kids Fishing Derby is set for Saturday, May 3, at Thompson Pond (located at the entrance of the SWIFT Center on North Fruitdale Road). The event is open to kids 14 and under—as per Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife guidelines—and runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (gates open at 7 a.m.).

Participants should bring their own fishing gear and bait, while the club will provide free hot dogs and refreshments. Exciting raffle prizes will be given away throughout the day—each participant will receive a ticket upon arrival.

The Sedro-Woolley School District is looking for key partners to join us for the 4th Annual Reading & Resources Night on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cascade Middle School playfields. This event is dedicated to supporting district students and families by promoting literacy and connecting them with valuable community resources.

We would love to have you participate by hosting a booth or providing a service that benefits our families. Please review the details below and complete the required Booth or Service Provider Participant Agreement Form to secure your spot.

Deadline to Submit Form: Friday, May 16, 2025

Event Goals:

• Provide activities that promote reading and literacy.
• Offer selected goods or services at no cost to assist low-income families.

Key Event Components:

• Literacy-focused activities.
• Community resource booths offering helpful information, services, or goods.
• Free resources such as school supplies, books, and essential services (e.g., haircuts).

Booth & Participation Criteria:

• Materials should be available in both English and Spanish, if possible.

• Booths must fit one or more of the following categories:

• Governmental services (e.g., fire department, public institutions of higher education)
• Reduced-cost services aiding low-income families (e.g., food banks, housing assistance)
• School-affiliated groups (e.g., student clubs, parent associations)
• Youth sports or recreational programs (e.g., Little League, after-school activities)

• Priority will be given to organizations that:

• Have an established presence in the local community.
• Maintain a preexisting relationship with the District.
• Hold governmental or 501(c)(3) status.
• Provide affordable and accessible services for district families.

• Prohibited Activities: No political campaigning, religious proselytizing, food vendors, inflatable bounce houses, or obstacle courses.

If a 2-hour late start is called due to inclement weather:

• No morning preschool (Good Beginnings, Samish Cooperative, Cub Club, and Y at Good Beginnings Preschool).
• Afternoon preschool classes will operate as normal.
• Head Start and Early Head Start (located next to Evergreen Elementary School) will continue as scheduled. On Wednesdays, the program will start at the same time as the regular Tuesday schedule.

When adverse weather conditions are in the forecast, we would ask that you refer to the Inclement Weather and Emergency Bulletin page for specific directions and methods of communication that will be used in a weather emergency. If you live on a potential snow route, please contact the district's transportation department at 360-855-3504 for specific bus stop information.

School supply lists below may also be available in a printable format from your school building secretary. Some schools also have the printed lists offered in Spanish. On the website, please choose "Translate" and then select your primary language to see the automated translations of the supply lists. You can also call 360-855-3772 for language assistance.

Both State Street High School and Sedro-Woolley High School students will receive specific supply lists from teachers during the first week of school. General supplies include:

Free breakfast and lunch meals for ALL students will continue for the 2024-2025 school year. The continuation of free meals is possible through implementation of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

Please note that CEP allows the service of one free breakfast and one free lunch meal daily. If students wish to have more than one meal per day, they will need to have money added to their food service account online or in the school office and will be charged accordingly. In addition, milk is an a la carte item. When taken by itself, the charge is $0.60. Students can get milk for free by ensuring they select a reimbursable meal, which can include a milk, fruit and vegetable. Students are not required to get the daily entrée.
