🏫 District Reminders
May 23, 2025
Manville Community,
For many of us, cancer is more than just a word—it’s a reality that has touched our lives in profound and deeply personal ways. Whether we’ve faced it ourselves, supported a loved one through their battle, or stood in solidarity with members of our community, cancer has left a lasting impact on us all.
In honor of Cancer Survivorship Month, we invite you to join us for a Cancer Awareness Spirit Week Fundraiser, taking place from June 4th to June 6th. This special event aims to raise both awareness and funds to support those affected by cancer.
While dress-down days will take place in our schools, we warmly welcome the entire Manville community to participate. You can show your support by dressing down and making a donation—no amount is too small to make a difference. All proceeds will benefit patients and families at The Steeplechase Cancer Center in Somerville.
🎗️ To donate, please click here: https://giving.classy.org/campaign/690383/donate
In addition, our students will be creating heartfelt cards for patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset. These messages of encouragement and care will be delivered at the end of June, reminding patients that they are not alone.
On a personal note, many of you know that I had been growing my hair for the past two years with the goal of donating it to help someone undergoing cancer treatment. I’m proud to share that I recently donated 10 inches to Locks of Love, a small act that I hope brings comfort to a child in need. If you’ve ever considered donating your hair—or growing it with this purpose in mind—I encourage you to join me in this meaningful cause.
Thank you for your ongoing compassion, generosity, and community spirit. Together, let’s continue to support and uplift those impacted by cancer with hope and heart.
Thank you!
Jamil Maroun
Superintendent

A Day at Lake Hopatcong
On May 12, students from our 6th grade class participated in the Lake Hopatcong Floating Classroom Program. Thanks to generous grants from The Community Foundation of New Jersey and the EarthShare Network’s Wheels for STEM Grant we had over 80% participation across the grade.
Students spent the day evaluating water quality and microorganisms on the Floating Classroom- a pontoon boat that seats up to 40 people and a mobile research station. Students also explored the geologic history of New Jersey with a hike, completed a model that showed how nonpoint source pollution can be added into an ecosystem, and collected aquatic macroinvertebrates to analyze the health of the Musconetcong River. Many students have shared that their time on the boat was their favorite part of the trip!
7th Grade Soars at Camp Mason!
Our 7th graders had an amazing time on their two-day, one-night adventure to YMCA Camp Mason! From archery and axe throwing to the thrilling leap of faith, giant swing, and rock wall climbing, students stepped out of their comfort zones and cheered each other on. The evening bonfire and s’mores added the perfect touch to a trip full of bonding, bravery, and fun. As they look ahead to 8th grade, they bring with them not only great memories but also a stronger sense of confidence and community.
