A word from Principal Martinez
Hello De Zavala Families,
One of the most important factors of a student’s academic success is their daily on time attendance. It is critical students are in school on time daily when healthy. When students are absent from school, he/she misses instruction. It can be difficult for a child to make up the instruction lost due to an absence or late arrival. Simply put, it’s hard for a child to learn if he/she is not in school. Along with daily attendance, students need to be on time daily. When a child is late to class, it actually affects the child along with the rest of the class. Any disruption in the instruction will affect the class schedule and flow of instruction.
We are excited to begin an incentive program to encourage and reward students for continuous daily attendance and punctuality. The FWISD start of school time is 7:50 AM. This means students must be in their seat ready to go at 7:50 AM ready for the day’s instruction. On Tuesday, October 11, we will begin the “Attendance Adds Up” incentive program outlined below.
· Students can earn a personal prize every 20 days of attendance without a tardy.
· The class can earn a class party with 17 days of classroom perfect attendance. Each day the entire class is present, they will color in the letter with the goal of coloring in the phrase
“P E R F E C T A T T E N D A N C E.” Once the phrase is complete, the class will earn a class party or incentive.
· Every six weeks, the class with the greatest number of perfect attendance days as a class will earn a free dress day.
· At the end of the year, all students with perfect attendance for the year will receive a medal at their awards ceremony.
· At the end of the year, the class with highest attendance percentage for the entire school will earn a class field trip. More details will be provided as we get closer to this date.
We want students eager and excited about attending school. Of course, we need your support and help in order for this program to be successful. The Attendance Adds Up will help students academically and really take ownership of their responsibility of attending school. Thank you in advance for this support and helping all De Zavala students succeed academically.
Sincerely,
M. Martinez

Nurse V wants you to know
There has been a noticeable increase in students requesting nurse visits prior to 10am with reports of stomach aches and/or headaches and having not eaten breakfast. Please encourage your scholars to eat breakfast prior to the school day. Breakfast is provided free of charge in our cafeteria from 7:20-7:50 am. In the event your student is not able to attend breakfast please send a snack with them so that we may provide our students with every opportunity to have a productive, engaging day. While we sometimes have snacks donated to supply to hungry students, we cannot supply snacks to each child who may need one.
Please make sure your student has the opportunity to eat prior to instruction each school day.

Perfect Attendance!
Part of our Perfect Attendance Challenge is earning a class party with 17 days of classroom perfect attendance. Each day the entire class is present, they color in the letter with the goal of coloring in the phrase “P E R F E C T A T T E N D A N C E.” Once the phrase is completely colored in, the class earns a class party or incentive.

Parent Portal
The Parent Portal is available to all FWISD parents with students enrolled in PK-12. This tool will transform the way you interact with your child’s campus by enhancing two-way communication and involvement. It works seamlessly with the District’s Student Information System (SIS) and allows you to monitor your child's progress in school by providing timely access to both assignments and grades that are entered by the teacher throughout the grading period.
Class Dojo
Communication
De Zavala teachers and staff want to communicate with our families. The ways we do that are through Class Dojo and Parent Portal. If you need assistance downloading the apps or getting access, we are more then happy to help. Also, please feel free to call the school 817-814-5600.
If you have any questions regarding classroom procedures, events or other matters, please contact your child's teacher/s FIRST. You may contact them via Class Dojo or by email or a phone number that may have been provided to you.
