Performance based assessments with Seesaw
What is a Performance Based Assessment?
According to "Taking teaching to (performance) task: Linking pedagogical and assessment practices." , a performance based assessment measures student's ability to apply the skills and knowledge learned from a unit or unit of study. Typically, the task challenges students to use their higher-order thinking skills to create a product or complete a process (Chun, 2010).
Key Ideas about Performance Based Assessment
Apply Knowledge
Students must apply the knowledge or skills they have learned in order to successfully complete the task. This is more than just a multiple choice question.
Higher Order Task
Open-ended tasks with no objective answer allow students to think deeply and assess higher-order thinking skills.
Produces Results
As a result of a performance based assessment, the students will have a finished product or have gone through a process in which they will have applied the knowledge they have learned.
