Science

Students will engage in argumentation from evidence that show understanding of how the functions of the Cardiovascular, Excretory, Digestive, Respiratory, Muscular, Nervous, and Immune Systems interact with each other to carry out life processes by completing the "Most Valuable Body System" activity. Students will take Unit 2 Assessment Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday (Digital Learning Day #2), students will complete a Blooket to preview the next Unit on Genetics.

ELA

This week we will finalize Unit 2 Lesson 2 - The Camera Does Lie by taking the quick check on Monday. The students worked the previous week using the informational text to analyze and evaluate the author's purpose citing evidence that supports the main ideas. We will then move to Lesson 3 - Two Legs or One?, where we will analyze elements of a folktale and literary devices. This is a short lesson, so it is important that all students are prepared daily and complete their assignments. Additionally, next Friday (November 3) is a digital learning day.

Math

In Math, students will continue in Unit 3 of Exploring Ratios and Proportional Relationships. Students will explore these concept in real-world situations. These real-world connections will be explored through markups, markdowns, taxes, tips, gratuities and commission. At the conclusion of this week, I challenge you to have your students calculate the sales tax or tip, markups or markdowns on any purchases you encounter over the weekend. This simple task with help aid them in the concepts they learned throughout the week. This concept will connect to their knowledge of equations.

Social Studies

This week in social studies class, our scholars will be working on Unit 5 (AKS 47).Students will analyze how voluntary trade benefits buyers and sellers in Southwest Asia (Middle East). They will learn that If the trade was not beneficial to one of the parties, then that party would not agree to the trade and the trade would not occur.

Math Tutoring will be offered weekly (starting next week 10/25/2023) by Ms. Yeoman. Students will sign up using the following link. The tutorial will be reserved to the first 10 students to sign up each week. The time is from 4:30 - 5:15, every Wednesday (unless otherwise noted). Students will report to Ms. Yeoman's class on 2nd bus dismissal call. Please make transportation arrangements to have your student picked up promptly at 5:15pm.

Please provide your student with a set of colored pencils, a highlighter and glue (wet or stick). These items are necessary for the maintenance of their Math Interactive Notebook. Please send them with your student. They will not be distributed. Your child will keep up with their own material.

The following procedures are in place to support parents/students in attendance:

1-3 days - teacher contact

5-7 days - counselor contact

10 days - school social worker intervention/support

Parents are encouraged to notify the school when an absence is expected to occur. Parents can send an email to the counselor, front office and/or turn in any excuse notes.

Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us - September 15 to October 15, 2023! The theme for this year is "Building Bridges To The Hispanic Culture." We are excited about a month of cultural experience. As students are gaining their footing in the new school year, we would like to take a moment to address our dress code policy. Teachers will perform dress code checks each morning during homeroom. Students that do not adhere to the dress code policy will receive consequences that may include a warning, phone call home, alternative clothing (provided by the nurse) and/or ISS until proper clothing is provided. Clear backpacks are also considered in the dress code policy.

Ways you can assist:

• Have students get their clothing out the night before, and check it against the school's dress code policy.
• Speak with students about the dress code policy, about what is allowed and not allowed, and what consequences may accrue if the expectations are not followed.
• Check your student's attire before leaving home and ensure extra clothing is not stored in their backpack.
