In my year of helping school nurses, I have learned that it takes heart. Like all aspects of nursing, we, as school nurses, are expected to do more with less help and funding. Every nurse or health aid I have worked with has a huge heart and only wants what is best for their student and school.

Camp Broncho
"We are recruiting volunteers to be camp counselors at Camp Broncho, our summer asthma camp. Camp Broncho is a weeklong, overnight camp for kids 7-13 years old with moderate to severe asthma. It is a camp loaded with fun activities such as horseback riding, fishing, swimming, rock wall climbing, and zip-lining, to name a few. There are also some fun educational sessions tucked in between all those activities. It's a time for our campers to come together to learn more about themselves and their illness and to discover that with consistent use of their preventive medications, they can live full and active life. Our goal is to provide a complete camp experience for children who cannot attend other camps because of their asthma.
Camp Broncho is hosted by Camp John Marc, located 70 miles southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth near Meridian, Texas. Please consider volunteering. We cannot do camp without your help!
Needs: Eight males and eight females to volunteer as camp counselors in cabins this summer
Dates: August 5-11, 2023
Required: Proof of full COVID Vaccination

Grant Opportunities
The goal is to encourage Texas children, families, and communities to improve eating and physical activity patterns. Several grants are available for schools ranging from $750 to $5,000.
Physical activity and nutrition education components are required for the grants. The grants have rolling deadlines up to April 15, 2023.

2022-2025 School Safety Standards Formula Grant
The grant aims to assist Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in meeting the new school safety standards, including security-related costs like metal detectors, cameras, and monitoring tools. This grant will allow LEAs to follow the new standards of Chapter 61, sub-chapter CC, 61.1031 of the Commissioner's Rules.
