JHMS Summer Newsletter

As we prepare for the new school year, JHMS as a speciality school is in need of information on how your child(ren) will be arriving to and departing from the school. Please take a moment and complete the Transportation Google Form by Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in order to ensure that JHMS is able to provide the information to PGCPS transportation department in a timely manner. One form for each child needs to be completed.

Orientation for new students to JHMS will occur on September 3rd. Further information will be forthcoming as the district releases it. However, the orientation will be in person for those students eligible. New preK3 students will have a scheduled orientation with their teacher on a different day and time.

Back 2 School Nights will be held virtually on September 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Your child's teacher will send a zoom link at the start of the school year.

Please locate the 2021-2022 JHMS School Supply List on this site. These generalized lists are a great starting point but please note that teachers may have specific requests that they will send home during the first week of school.

Families with students who will be riding the bus this fall can download the new StopFinder mobile app for info on bus locations and schedules. Please note that you must have an email address on record in SchoolMax to use the app.

We are sensitive to the fact that parents/guardians are anxious to receive information about registration and enrollment for before and after care. Please keep in mind that all programs will need to be licensed by the state before operations can begin. AlphaBEST is working with the Office of Child Care and Principles to facilitate licensing and enrollment to begin as soon as possible. Feel free to visit our website for more information.

We are asking that students bring their school-issued laptops with them to school beginning the first week. If your student does not have a school issued laptop a chromebook will be available for them to use during instructional hours. During the first week of school, we will send home the chromebook agreement form to be signed by a parent/guardian. At the time we receive the signed form back, we will be able to officially issue the student a chromebook for their usage.

Rising first graders will have a scheduled date and time prior to the start of the school year to return their iPads. At this time, a parent/guardian can sign for a chromebook. Chromebooks will be distributed the first week of school.

All students should have up-to-date immunization records on file in the health room. During the 2020-2021 school year your student may have received immunizations that we do not have record of, so please make sure that you are forwarding that information to Nurse Pinkney.

The school system sent out letters for students who were missing immunizations during the 2020-2021 school year. Students who do not have up-to-date immunizations, as required by PGCPS, will be excluded from the school and not able to attend until immunizations have been updated.
