ILearn Checkpoints January 2024-25
Assessment Update
The Indiana Department of Education is piloting three checkpoints for Grades 3-8 to make a new “through-the-year” assessment which will be required for all students to take next year. Perry Township opted into the pilot this year in order to help give input into this new assessment.
Southport Middle will take Checkpoint 2 on January 21 (LA) and January 23 (Math). The checkpoint system will take the place of Evaluate, which we took in prior years for the same purpose of informing instruction throughout the year. You will be informed of your student’s results after each testing window through ParentSquare.
For more information about the ILEARN Checkpoints, please see the 7th and 8th Grade specific Family Guidance documents that are supporting this message. All of your student’s state and district test scores are located in Skyward under Test Scores.
Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up
As a reminder with our colder weather, SMS door #3 opens at 7:45am each morning for students. At that time, students are to enter the auditorium, supervised by staff, until the opening bell at 8:00 am. Please do not drop your students off prior to this time, as staff is not available for supervision.
Likewise, after dismissal students will need to wait outside the doors for car rider pickup. This aids in the speed of the pick-up line. Please encourage your students to dress appropriately for the weather. Dismissal is at 2:55pm on Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays are 2:30pm.
Question of the Week
Congratulations! You've made it to the end of the week and our newsletter! In our weekly newsletters, we sometimes ask a "just for fun" Question of the Week. Hopefully, you will enjoy our variety of questions throughout the year and participate!
Since we just came off of a two-week break from school, there might have been a little bit of binge-watching. So, for this week's question:
