April Happenings
Q3 Middle School Honor Roll Assembly
Our Middle School Honor Roll Assembly took place on April 18th, 2024. We celebrated our students with their families and refreshments.
Principal's Award
These students have earned the highest gpa in their grade for Quarter 3.
The students are; Lucia Lys in 8th grade, Tamyira Roberts in 8th grade, Emma Lys in 7th grade, Jaliyah Mcfadden in 7th grade, and Sofia Saldana in 6th grade. Congratulations Dragons!
College Spring Fair
A big shoutout to all of the colleges that came to talk to our students about their schools, the application process, and the benefits of continuing their education. We hope that the students walked away with a different perspective, and we hope to have more colleges visit International.
Career Fair for 8th Garde
Our 8th graders had career day on April 24, 2024. The students were able to listen in and gain advice about the workforce and what to expect as they enter adulthood. They even got to see a fire truck and speak with a firefighter.
Science Center Field Trip for High School
Some of our high school students visited the Science Center this month. There, the students completed an electrophoresis lab called, "Conserving the Cottontail."
Connecticut Superior Appellate Court
Today AIS hosted the Connecticut Superior Appellate Court held in our auditorium. A huge thank you to Principal Hernandez and Assistant Principal, Mr. Craig for delegating and making this opportunity available to our students. We got to see how an actual trial would function, lawyers defending their cases to the judges and students even got to do a Q & A with the lawyers at the end of each session. It was an enriching experience!
College Acceptance Shoutouts!
Shout out to our students who have been accepted to universities this year! Here's a list of schools that our seniors, Raeah Thorington, Ana Nunez, Sophia Leavitt, Ron Baapogmah and
Alexandra Castro-Armstrong got accepted to.
Check out our next passport for more Senior spotlights!
Senior Shoutout!
One of our 12th grade students, Raeah Thorington was awarded The Ana Grace Love Wins Scholarship through the CREC Foundation. The scholarship is dedicated to Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, the daughter of Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene, and sister to Isaiah Márquez-Greene. The scholarship award is for one student for a total of $25,000. Raeah has an interest in exploring her post-secondary plans at a 4 year college, to study art and biology.

Student's Getting Involved
Health Fair
International's Health Fair took place on April 2nd in our gym. The students put together by our high school students! They talked to our middle schoolers about mental health, nutrition, physical health, personal hygiene, and ways to get better sleep. They had interactive activities and prizes for the students. It was an engaging event, and we love to see our dragons teaching dragons.
.
Spring Pep Rally!
"Let the School Spirit be Unleashed." What a great way to kick off the month of April!
Student council put together a good old fashion pep rally for all the grades to show their school spirit!
Health & Wellness
CT State Department of Public Health requires that all students have an updated physical exam and specific immunizations prior to the entrance of the 7th and 10th grades. This is a friendly reminder that physical exams and immunization services are available to all International Students.
Please reach out to the School Based Health Center if your student is need of receiving updated immunizations, or for required physicals!
We also provide physicals for college entry or sports participation.
Completed documents may be returned via fax to 860-286-1195, via scan/email to treid@crec.org or have the student return forms to school nurse's office.

Introducing New Staff!
Amy Hieleman is a clinician with Cornerstone Counseling Center who loves working with Middle and High school kids. She has been working with adolescents for the last four years, as an advocate, an in-home clinician and in an intensive outpatient setting. She looks forward to supporting the AIS community.
Families should encourage students to reach out to their child’s school counselor or a school social worker to get enrolled. Services can occur during the summer, they do accept all major insurance’s, services can provided in person at school, in their office’s in West Hartford/Southington, or telehealth.
The group envisions a "Connecticut where differences are respected, conflicts are resolved peacefully and violence is not tolerated." They are working with some of our AIS students to create a peaceful environment. Stay tuned for updates!
