CHHS "Peek at the Week"

Mission: Our schools provide a challenging and engaging education to prepare all our students to become responsible citizens and succeed in college and career.

11th Graders who were unable to take the SAT on March 12 will take it tomorrow, March 18. Students will need their fully charged District Chromebooks and chargers the day of the test.

An email will be sent by Guidance to the students who are scheduled to test with additional information and their testing locations.

This is a regular school day for all other students.

Heights High will start OST Testing when we return from Spring Recess on Thursday, April 10. Students scheduled to test must bring their charged District-issued Chromebooks and chargers to their test.

Heights High School Director of Orchestras Mr. Dan Heim and Director of Bands Dr. Nick Marzuola are in the running to win the Manilow Music Teacher Award, which celebrates local music educators. Nominees are currently participating in an online voting contest - the top vote recipient will be selected as the winner.

This award includes a $10,000 prize – a $5,000 cash prize for the winning teacher and a $5,000 Manilow Bucks credit valid for instrument purchases for the winning teacher’s classroom.

Vote here daily, now through April 3.

Heights High Students, do you have a trusted adult in the building?

A trusted adult is any staff member whose actions and words make you (the student) feel safe, who you feel cares about you, respects you, and you would feel comfortable confiding in.

Please take a moment to complete the Trusted Adult Survey identifying at least one staff member you would call your trusted adult. Please do not select more than 5 trusted adults.

Every March, the United States honors the vital contributions of women throughout history. This year for Women's History Month, the National Women's History Alliance has chosen the theme "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations" to highlight the influential role of women in education and mentorship.

CH-UH students who will be in high school next year are getting the chance to find their next great reads at the Summer Book Fair. Students will visit the school library with their English class on an assigned date. They will select titles from the Heights High summer reading list; books will be delivered to the students in May.

Heights High Students - if you have a talent and would like to showcase it in the talent show please see Ms. Mims in room 102 or click here to sign up for auditions. Auditions will be held in the Mini Auditorium tomorrow, March 18th, at 3:15. The talent show will be held on March 27 during 2nd and 3rd periods.

Interested in joining the first Rugby Club at Cleveland Heights High School? Come to the informational meeting after school, March 18th, in room 353. You can sign up for the club early by filling out this form.

Practices will start the first week of April on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. at Denison Park and bus transportation will be provided to practice from the school at 3:30 p.m.

Heights Hight student and families are invited to attend the Annual Cleveland Northeast Suburban College Fair this Thursday, March 20th at Cleveland Heights High School.

The event offers information sessions on HBCU colleges as well as an Information session from the College Now program. These information sessions will be held at the high school from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The college fair begins at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. There will be dozens of college representatives there to provide information about their schools.

This event is free and open to the public.

GSA is an inclusive group for all students, it aims for students to come together as a group to discuss and advocate for issues that are on the minds of our fellow students. GSA is interested in creating a unified group to educate, and inspire students to respect one another.

Meetings are every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month during 5th period in the Library.

College Now Greater Cleveland is proud to offer comprehensive support to students at Cleveland Heights High School through our GEAR UP and Educational Talent Search (ETS) programs. These initiatives are designed to guide students through their educational journeys and help them prepare for college and future careers.

Each program is dedicated to empowering students with the tools they need for success. College Now encourage grade-level teachers to sign up for workshops and partner with them to maximize student engagement and preparation. Registration for the College of Wooster's B-WISER and B-WISEST science camps is open. B-WISER is for rising 8th and 9th grade girls while girls in 10th and 11th graders can attend B-WISEST, with more advanced science classes.

The week-long residential camp is for rising 8th through 11th grade girls interested in STEM in Ohio. Students take a full daily curriculum with classes in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, robotics, and other advanced topics. Students experience cooperative learning, develop self-confidence, and hear from professional women in science about their journeys. Students use campus science labs and stay in Wooster’s college dorms. Inability to pay should not be a barrier to attending camp, the program offers subsidized camp rates and financial aid scholarships.

The B-WISER and B-WISEST programs will take place from June 16 - 25, 2025. Registration deadlines are April 30 for B-WISER and March 31 for B-WISEST.

The Summer Healthcare Experience (SHE) Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center is sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and seeks to encourage female students to consider careers in biomedical fields, especially cancer research and medicine.

Program Information:

The SHE program provides a 2-week virtual experience for young women who are currently in their freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years of high school. The program will include a series of virtual workshops, panels, and hands on research activities, with science research kits which will be sent directly to the participant’s home.

Week 1 (July 7 - 11, 2025): Hands on Cancer Research – Live online laboratory instruction with at-home experiment kit.

Week 2 (July 14 - 18, 2025): Career Exploration in Cancer Research & Medicine – Virtual professional development workshop sessions. Clinical Cancer Case study exploration and patient treatment.

The Mandel Youth Humanities Academy is a summer program that offers rising high school juniors and seniors in Northeast Ohio an opportunity to broaden their humanities education and get a taste of college coursework. The Mandel Youth Humanities Academy is a nine-week program that runs from June through August (break the week of July 4). The program meets Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The summer program includes:

• Discussion-based seminars in philosophy, history, art, literature, and religion
• Explorations and interactive documentaries in new media
• Community-based learning across Cleveland through “City as Text” experiences

Accepted students receive a generous stipend equivalent to a full-time summer job, a personal computer and, as needed, transportation to and from campus.

The Heights High Class of 2025 is selling hanging baskets and planters as a fundraiser for prom and other end-of-year activities through Thursday, March 27. Delivery day is scheduled for April 24.

The MetroHealth Institute for H.O.P.E. School Health Program is partnering with CH-UH to offer health care services on-site at your child’s school. Your child will now have easier medical service access during the school day. Additionally, CH-UH City School District students, their families, and staff members can receive routine health care at the Heights Wellness Center inside Heights High School.

What services does MetroHealth provide?

• Physicals (annual/sports/work permit)
• Injury/illness care
• Routine lab tests
• Teen services
• Mental/behavioral health
• Immunizations
• Care for chronic conditions, including asthma, allergies, diabetes and seizure disorders
• Health education and prevention
• Telehealth, to supplement in-person care

If you know of a student is in need of social and/or emotional support, please complete the referral form located in the Quick Links section of Heights High’s page on CHUH.org. Anyone can complete this referral form, and submissions are routed directly to the school social workers and counselors for follow-up.

Our “see something, say something” policy applies to our school community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone can access the Safe School Helpline to report threats, bullying, or other such behavior. Call 1-800-4-1-VOICE (1-800-418-6423) ext. 359 to leave your information, or submit a report online.
