SD Met Family Updates

All SD Met families are invited to celebrate our 20th Anniversary on April 16 from 11AM-1PM here on the Mesa College campus! Please complete this Google Form to RSVP!

Come support our Aspen Challenge Team with a fun night out at Panda Express. The Aspen Challenge is a nationwide competition in which 40 schools from two cities compete to solve world problems. They are given 5 challenges, and are asked to choose one of them to create a solution for. Our team chose to address the challenge of mental health, which asked us to create a roadmap to support students on their mental health journey. We are creating an art-focused campaign called Express that allows students to create art that displays their mental health journey.

Our April MetUp will be focused on Career Exploration. Students will attend panel discussions that are organized by career field, and then meet in small groups with panelists to get a more personal perspective on various careers. In the afternoon, students will engage with our Aspen Challenge team around a special art-oriented activity.

Dismissal on Friday, April 19, will be at 2:30pm. Please plan your pickup accordingly.

Patch and Pond’s “Makers Market” event is a student-led initiative to both further our community reach, uplift student entrepreneurship, and provide well-needed funding to continue our aquaponics program for future Met business students. Students from the Met community will be selling their own original creations, including soaps, handmade accessories, and much more. Come support our students, clubs, and us here at Patch and Pond on April 22, from 10AM-2PM in front of the Mesa Commons.

San Diego Met seniors have been studying dystopian literature through novels, short stories and film. They studied principles of economics and researched how natural and historical events can lead to major impacts upon a culture's politics, religion, art, technology, social customs and economics. Students then created dystopian societies which are grappling with a current economic issue, such as famine, climate change, overpopulation, drought, environmental disasters, depletion of resources, technology, war, terrorism, crime, income inequality, etc. In teams, they created a backstory for their society, developed characters, wrote a film treatment, designed a movie poster, and produced a two-minute trailer for their films. All students who are interested in attending the People of Pasifika Conference (Pacific Islander festival) on Wed, April 10, should talk to Ms. Kohmescher by end of day this Friday. (This is a drop-off event at Morse High School.)

Innovation Family Community Theater (IFCT) is proud to present another terrific community theater production: Arsenic and Old Lace. The Brewsters are no ordinary family. Come join the chaotic fun, misunderstandings, and murder in this delightfully charming, uproariously funny comedy. May 2-12, check ticket link for specific dates and times.

Our 10th grade class will be painting ceramic butterflies for a World History Unit recently completed. Does any community member have access to a kiln to fire these 30 or so small ceramic butterflies? Please reach out to Ms. Wangler directly (lwangler@sandi.net).

Each year, we distribute to parents the Facts for Parents document provided by our district. In order to confirm that you have received this document, parents should please log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and submit the 2023-24 Facts for Parents form. This form is available in English, Spanish, Somali, Tagalog, and Vietnamese and includes a link to Facts for Parents. Thank you!
