A Wonderful First Week and More to Come!
Dear Laurel Wood Community,
Thank you for those who were able to attend our Back to School Parent Meeting on August 8th. We had almost 100 parents and family members! What a great way to start our year building community together!
We are so appreciative of our amazing community, the trust you put in our staff to care for your children, and the joyful, safe space we are creating together. THANK YOU!!
Please remember to complete the agreement pages in the back of the Student and Parent Handbook and return them to school with your student. If you are interested, please complete the information section of the pamphlets that were handed out at the Parent Meeting, and are available in the front office of our school. We want as much parent involvement as possible this year!
We have many new resources for parents in 24/25, including this biweekly newsletter and a new school website.
Our first PTC (Parent Teacher Club) meeting will be held this Wednesday in the school Library, from 5-6 pm. Come and be part of our amazing team
I have linked the school lunch menu website below, as well as the parent engagement pamphlet.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns. I am here to support YOU!
Thank you for a great first week, and I look forward to many more!
All the best,
Maire McDermid, MA Ed.

Dear Parents, Students, and the Laurel Wood Community:
I am honored to serve as the incoming principal of Laurel Wood Elementary this year. I cannot express how thrilled I am to welcome back many familiar faces - and to welcome new ones into our community.
Ms. Bobbi Domingos joins our staff as our new Vice Principal, and we have several amazing educators joining our team in a variety of roles.
Here’s to new beginnings and creating community!
To our students: You are each amazingly unique, with incredible potential. This year, I encourage you to embrace challenges, be curious, and always strive to do your best. Remember that mistakes are a natural part of learning, and every step you take brings you closer to your goals. Your teachers and the entire staff are here to support you every step of the way, cheering you on as you explore new subjects, make new friends, and discover your passions.
To our parents: Thank you! You entrust us with the privilege of educating your children, the future’s most precious resource. Your support is invaluable. This year, let’s continue to work together to create a positive and engaging environment for our students.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out, whether you have questions, ideas, or simply want to become more involved in our school community. Your partnership makes a significant difference in our students’ success. We are actively searching for new parent members to join our School Site Council (SSC), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), and our Parent Teacher Club (PTC). We rely on parent involvement to achieve our shared goals and make decisions for the school’s funding, spending, and events.
Let’s foster a culture of kindness, respect, and collaboration in our school and beyond. Together, we can create an environment where our students feel inspired to learn, grow, and thrive.
Here's to a fantastic school year filled with new friendships, valuable lessons, and unforgettable memories.
Let’s make this year the best one yet!
With warmest regards,
Maire McDermid, MA Ed.
