A Message from Principal Buchko
Dear MacArthur Families,
A big thank you to our MacArthur team for sponsoring such an amazing Literacy Night last night. The Literacy Night was a huge success, with so many students and families involved-----what an amazing turnout! We had 168 MacArthur students attend our Literacy Night and this number does not include all the younger siblings. And we had 257 adults attend our Literacy Night. There were so many fun activities for our families to engage in, every student walked away with a brand new book and many educational games were given away in our drawings throughout the evening. Thank you to everyone who attended the Literacy Night.
There is a lot of exciting things happening at MacArthur in the next few weeks. We are gearing up for our One District One Book reveal on Friday, February 28th. All our K-5 students will be coming home with a book to read together as a family. The really cool thing this year is that all 7 elementary schools that are part of our Crown Point Community Schools will be reading the exact same book. What a wonderful way to bring the community together around reading. On Friday, February 28th our MacArthur students will be having a short assembly at 3:00 to reveal to the students the name of the book. Various clues will be given next week prior to the reveal.
March 8th is our Fun Fair from 10:00 – 2:00. Please check our PTO Facebook page for information about our Fun Fair and please sign up to volunteer to help at our Fun Fair. It takes a lot of manpower to run a Fun Fair and to plan for a Fun Fair, so thank you in advance for your help. It is always nice when the community rallies together to make these events possible. If you work for a company that would be willing to donate toward our Fun Fair that would be much appreciated.
IREAD-3 testing begins the week of March 3rd for our 2nd and 3rd grade students. We will be sending a separate informational message to our 2nd and 3rd grade parents next week. However, it is very important that all of our 2nd and 3rd grade students have their own set of headphones and that their chromebooks are charged every single evening prior to coming to school each day. This will definitely help them feel prepared and confident.
Have a Great Weekend.
Marian Buchko
