FAC Weekly Update
October 6, 2023
Good Morning, FAC Family
We hope that you and yours had a fantastic week! A few highlights from ours...
- Congratulations to the students and faculty of the FAC Visual Arts department on a phenomenal Portfolio Day. Many hours of work went into the planning, setup, and execution of the event. Students presented their work to representatives from some of the top visual arts collegiate programs in the country. It was a great showing of the quality of education that our VA department provides to our students.
- Congratulations to the FAC Jazz All-Stars on their performance at the Peace Center's Genevieve's Lounge. The student performers delighted the sold-out audience, earning multiple standing ovations and calls for encore performances. Bravo!
Here's the latest from the halls of the FAC...
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
Embracing Failure - from Creativity, Inc.
“Failure isn’t a necessary evil. In fact, it isn’t evil at all. It is a necessary consequence of doing something new.”
“If you aren’t experiencing failure, then you are making a far worse mistake: You are being driven by the desire to avoid it.”
“When faced with a challenge, get smarter.”
“By ignoring my fear, I learned that the fear was groundless. Over the years, I have met people who took what seemed the safer path and were the lesser for it...I had taken a risk, and that risk yielded that greatest reward...Always take a chance on better, even if it seems threatening.”
“We must remember that failure gives us chances to grow, and we ignore those chances at our own peril.”
Ed Catmull with Amy Wallace; Creativity, Inc. - Overcoming the Unseen Forces that Stand in the Way of True Inspiration
FAC Green Artists
FAC's Green Artists Club recently conducted their first Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on Pine Knoll Dr. Five large bags of trash were collected, along with a shopping cart, which was returned to Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. If you are interested in joining Green Artists and earning volunteer credit hours on a future project, please contact Mr. Young at rwyoung@greenvilleschools.us or Carter Saccocio at csacco7737@greenvilleschools.us.
Volunteers Needed
FAC Parents,
The Fine Arts Center will host several student performances during October, with great opportunities for parents to get involved by volunteering! These evening shifts take less than an hour of your time and can be a great fit for parents who work or have other responsibilities during the school day.
Volunteer shifts are not limited to parents of that evening's performers! In fact, you'll see a note beside each shift indicating whether the shift is a better fit for parents with a student performing in that night's show... or if it's better suited for a parent from a different art discipline who can finish the shift after the show has started. We encourage visual arts, architecture, and creative writing parents, as well as performing arts parents whose students are in a different show, to help out so parents of performers can take their seats before the show starts! If we have enough volunteers, we can offer FAC merchandise sales prior to each performance.
Click here to view the shifts and sign up to volunteer:

If these dates don't fit with your schedule, I'll send out another email in a couple of weeks with November opportunities. Performances start the first week in November, so the Sign Up Genius will go out earlier next month.
Thanks again for your support of the FAC students and teachers!! Reach out if you have any questions about volunteering.
