PTA Updates
Back-to-School Picnic | Fall for Ross | Morning Chess
It's Time to Fall for Ross!
This fall, we ask you to support the Ross PTA and help us to continue to host community-building events; support our teachers and staff; and enable Principal Searl to invest more of Ross's DCPS budget in staffing!
You can support your PTA in 3 important ways:
- Make a monetary donation. We ask families to consider donating $50/month ($600 annually). We understand this isn’t possible for everyone. Please give as you’re able and help your PTA maintain its strong programs.
- Volunteer to help with PTA activities. Volunteering your time and talents is a great way to get to know Ross, meet other Ross families, and to support your child’s education.
- Sign up for PTA communications. (If this email was sent to you directly, then you're already signed up!)
Everyone who makes a monetary donation through this campaign will receive a coupon for a free Pupatella pizza. And everyone who donates before Oct. 10 will be entered to win a drawing for a free pizza dinner for 6 at Pupatella's Dupont restaurant.
Our campaign goal is to raise $50,000 and engage with all Ross families. Your support is appreciated!
Back to School Potluck Picnic on Thurs (5-7pm)
The picnic will be potluck style, with the PTA providing some pizza, water and appetizers (donated by Pupatella). Thank you to everyone who has signed up up to bring food to share! We're also in need of volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up - please sign-up here.
Thank you for helping to make this event a success! We'll see you on Thursday!
Morning Chess Classes at Ross
Starting this week, before-school chess classes will be offered to Ross students, taught by FIDE instructor Zivorad (Ziko) Djuric. The beginner class (grades K-2) will be on Tuesdays, and the more advanced class (grades 2-5) will be held on Thursdays. Ziko will meet students in front of the school at 7:55am.
The cost is the same as last year - $14 per student per class. To register, please email Ziko at zikochess@gmail.com.
Ross Single Parents Get-together
A get-together will be held on the Ross playground this Sat, Sept 24, from 10-noon for Ross single parents and their kids!
This is a casual get together for single parents to meet each other, connect, and build community (while our kids play!).
Please email Holly Kilness Packett at hollykilness@gmail.com if you have questions.
Washington Spirit Tickets!
The Ross PTA has reserved a block of discounted tickets ($25 ea) for the Washington Spirit game vs. Houston Dash on Sat. Oct 1 at 7PM. If you haven't seen our city's incredible professional women's soccer team play, now's your chance! And there will be fireworks after the game!
If your family would like to attend, but is unable to cover the cost, please let Principal Searl know (or reply to this email). The PTA has scholarship tickets available.
Ward 2 Education Council Meeting Tomorrow at 7pm
The W2EC is a volunteer group of parents and educators who work to coordinate among the DCPS schools in Ward 2, and advocate with the administration and DC Council for issues facing our schools such as budget, feeder patterns, maintenance, and more.
This meeting will include LaKisha Jordan, staffer for Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, to discuss pending legislation on school budgeting. We will also generally share among our schools how things are going with the start of the year and discuss how to support our school staff and communities.
To learn more, feel free to reach out to David Alpert at w2edcouncil@gmail.com.
