Congratulations new members! Your commitment to excellence is inspiring. Wishing you endless possibilities and remarkable achievements.
It is difficult to believe that there are only 12 school days left in the 2023-2024 academic year. With spring in full swing, many students and families tend to think about the end of the school year. It is not just high school seniors who experience "senioritis" or the "end-of-the-school-year-blues". Even elementary school students can start to lose their focus and reduce their efforts towards the end of the school year.
Therefore, it is crucial to guide our children to finish the school year strong. We aim to raise responsible learners who do not give up and can work hard despite distractions. Here are some tips for parents to assist their students in continuing to put forth their best effort until the last school bell rings.
Gear Check
After spending months working hard and spending a lot of time in the classroom, many students are left with less-than-ideal supplies. Pencils may no longer have erasers, and crayons can be worn down to nubs. It can be difficult to do your best work when you don't have the right tools.
To ensure your children are able to put forth their best effort up until the last day, it's a good idea to take stock of their school supplies. A freshly sharpened pencil, a new glue stick, and a new box of crayons can make a world of difference.
Lead by Example
Kids learn by example and are quick to adopt our attitudes. If your child hears you talking about how you wish it was summer or how you can't wait for school to be over, he/she is likely to adopt that mindset. Avoid speaking negatively about school, homework, etc. in front of your child. It will be harder for your child to put forth his best effort if he thinks you don't care, don't like school, etc.
We like to tell our kids that every assignment is an opportunity to do their best. Encourage your kids to try their best, continue to set aside time to complete homework, and prioritize school attendance. Your positive attitude about school (even when it's sunny and almost time for vacation!) can help your children finish strong.
Stick to the Routine
During warm and sunny days, it can be difficult to ensure that your child maintains a consistent bedtime routine. However, it is crucial for them to continue getting a good night's sleep until the end of the school year. Stick to your child's regular bedtime and ensure that they have time for homework and at-home reading.
Encourage your child to develop responsibility and perseverance by emphasizing that successful learners complete their tasks until the job is done. Don't let the pleasant weather and upcoming summer vacation distract them from their goals. Maintaining a school-year schedule will help reinforce these values.
1-2 Reasonable and Reachable Goals
Setting goals is an effective way to help students stay motivated and focused during the final months of a school year. You can assist your children in selecting one or two small goals that are challenging but achievable before the end of the academic year. Some suggestions for these goals include advancing to the next level in reading, memorizing their multiplication tables, achieving a specific number of positive behavior days, etc. Work collaboratively with your children to identify the necessary steps to attain their goals, and encourage them to practice regularly at home.
Just a quick reminder that there will be no school on May 24, 2024, due to Bishop Parker Snow Day.
Let’s all work to help our students finish strong this year!
In Christ,
Mrs. Kim Hanner
Principal
