Juniors attended a career fair at Centralia high school today! They were able to interact with not only local career sectors but also state wide. Juniors were also given the opportunity to meet colleges, trade schools and military branches to begin thinking of their future!
Future Mustangs
At Jumpstart, the 3rd through 6th graders were super excited to see the football players and cheerleaders. It seemed at one point, the gym noise was louder than the Chiefs stadium. It's a Great Day To Be A Mustang! Go Mustangs!

Horticulture students took a field trip during 2nd hour today over to Riverside Market, for our Floral Design Unit we are learning how to make a corsage and boutonniere! A huge thank you to Sue Carlson for showing us some greenery, filler and flowers commonly used and giving us a wiring and taping demo! We can't wait to come back next week and put together our pieces!!
Competition!!!!
VH FFA did a great job today at our district ritual competition!! The officer team and greenhand officer team had to memorize their opening and closing ceremonies parts word for word and use their best public speaking skills to impress a panel of judges as a team! ๐ Our officer team placed 7th overall in the senior division and the Greenhand team placed 12th! ๐ Kinsley Gilling was the Senior Division Master Ritural Treasurer (the best of the best of all treasurers today!) and brought home a medal! Very proud of these kiddos for putting in the hours to memorize their parts and fine tune their public speaking skills and being brave enough to do it as a team in front of judges!

Mustang Update
This is fall buffer week at Valley Heights which is a required part of the Kansas State High School Activity Association calendar. The intent of this week is to give students a chance to take a breather between the fall and winter activity schedule. This only applies to the sports and practice sessions so you will notice we have no early morning weights or afternoon shoot-a-rounds. This does not apply to junior high practices and games and, in our case, the practices and games that involve state playoff teams. We have the same thing in place between first and second semester which is referred to as the Holiday Moratorium.
Our All-School Play was, like many of our past presentations, absolutely awesome! The performers, the costumes, the singing and dancing and the directing were just amazing. Congratulations to our cast and crew and to our new directors โ Ms. Allison Jones and Ms. Emma Tryon! In case you missed it, this show was the very first show that Ms. Jones was a part of when she joined the Valley Heights Youth Theatre group! Other members from that specific play were invited to attend and were honored at the beginning of each performance. It is always fun to see our students in an environment that we seldom get to experience but I can honestly say we have some very good vocalists and dancers!
Our football team earned a hard-fought victory, in the rain, with a 24-19 win over Sterling this past Friday night! Right now, they are one of eight Class 1A 11-Man teams left in the playoffs. We will now host Medicine Lodge on Friday night, November 15th, with a 6:00 pm start time. This is a KSHSAA activity so no passes will be accepted. Cost will be $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students. Veterans and active members of the military and one guest will be allowed into Friday nightโs game at no cost!
Our junior class participated in a Career Fair on Wednesday, November 13th, at Centralia. Thirty-nine businesses and organizations, thirteen institution of higher learning and two branches of the military were at the fair. There were students from ten area high schools that attended the event. Parents โ please take the time to visit with your child about the different booths they may have visited and which ones gained their interest!
We would like to extend a huge Thank You to Landollโs and Citizens State Bank who teamed up to provide a t-shirt to every staff member and student in our building! This has been an annual treat for several years and we do appreciate their support of the Mustangs!!
Busy week at Valley Heights this week so I am cutting my article short! Just a reminder that we have seven school days left until Thanksgiving vacation and then only 14 full school days until Christmas Break and the end of first semester! Make sure you are visiting with your child(ren) about staying current with all work and ending the grading period on a high note!
Have a great week!
