State Changes Sports Participation Rules for Virtual School Students
The TNDOE and TSSAA have recently changed their rules around virtual school students (called non-traditional students in their policies) trying out for sports teams of their zoned school. Students must meet all other eligibility requirements and must "notify the principal of the TSSAA member school of the non-traditional student’s intent to try out and possibly participate before the first official practice date in the sport." Here is the link to the official TSSAA policy.
Thus, if your student is interested in trying out for any of the below sports, please---
- Email the principal of the school BEFORE the date listed in the chart below.
- MHS- Heather Hilton
- MJHS- David Combs
- CGIS- Ramona Best
- MRIS- David Claxton
- Email the coach of the specific sport. Coaches for each school can be found on these websites.
TSSAA Also Changes Transfer Rules for Virtual School Students
The TSSAA has also changed their rules around virtual school students (called non-traditional students in their policies) transferring into and out of their zoned school and maintaining their eligibility. See a portion of the policy clipped below. Here is the link to the official TSSAA policy.
