Summer School Materials Fees
If you have not yet paid your summer school fees, please pay them as soon as possible. Cash/check payments should be dropped off at the front desk. Summer school fees must be paid by Friday, May 17th to guarantee your student's spot in the summer school program.
If you indicated that you'd prefer to pay through your Parent Portal, follow these directions:
- Log into your Parent Portal
- Click on "Fees"
- Choose "2024-2025" under School Year
- Click "Add to Cart" for all fees
- Click on "My Cart" and check out
Summer school is filling up, but we still have a few spots available! Click here to begin your family's registration!
If your plans have changed and your child can no longer attend or you cannot commit to 100% attendance, please reply to this email to let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your child's spot to another student.
After-care available at CWCKC until 6 pm through Camp Fire, but registration is required.
Teacher Appreciation Week
National Teacher Appreciation Week is this week! School leaders will be providing meals and snacks for staff during the week, but all students are invited to participate in Flower Friday on May 10th. On this day, students may bring flowers to distribute to teachers and staff members who are meaningful to them. Students are welcome to create flowers with craft supplies, bring flowers from your home garden, or purchase flowers from retailers such as Aldi, Costco, etc.
Field Day Volunteers Needed
We still need about 50 more volunteers for our eighth annual Field Day on Friday, May 24th! Please consider signing up for a couple of hours to help this day run smoothly for our community. No background clearance is needed, so all caregivers are encouraged to sign up today!
Spring PBL Showcase
We would like to extend an invitation to all caregivers to attend our second annual Spring PBL Showcase on Friday, May 17th from 2-3 pm. Please be mindful of parking options around the building, as there is still construction taking place. We kindly ask that you avoid parking in the limited spots near the bus stop on Broadway, and be sure not the block the fire hydrant. Additional parking may be found on 35th Street, 34th Street, 34th Terrace, on Broadway south of Armour, and at the Kansas City Life Insurance lot (see map). Caregivers are welcome to bring students home at the conclusion of the showcase at 3 pm. Further details can be found on the flyer below. We'll see you there!
8th Grade End-of-Year Events
We're so proud of our graduating 8th graders, and we hope all of our families will congratulate them as they prepare to leave our community and venture on to high school! Below is information about year-end events for this year's graduating 8th graders:
8th Grade Celebration Trip
The 8th graders will celebrate their graduation with a class trip to Worlds of Fun on Friday, May 10th!
Clap-Out
The last day of school for 8th graders is Wednesday, May 22nd. We will have an all school Clap-Out for our 8th graders at 1:15pm on our early release day. Feel free to come up and meet your 8th grader as they exit the building at 1:15pm or pick them up at the normal early dismissal time of 1:45pm.
Graduation
Day: Wednesday, May 22nd
Time: 5:45-7:00 PM (Ceremony from 6-7pm, students should arrive no later than 5:45pm)

PreK Openings at Operation Breakthrough
Last week we received some exciting news - we've been given the opportunity to invite 20 more students to join our PreK program at Operation Breakthrough for the 2024-2025 school year!
Our PreK program is open to students who live within KCPS boundaries and will be 4 years old by July 31st. Students attend Operation Breakthrough for PreK, along with all of the great programs and activities offered there, then have guaranteed spots at Citizens for kindergarten!
To be eligible for these PreK spots, families must qualify for free & reduced lunch. Interested families can apply at www.schoolappkc.org
Please share and help us spread the word - this is a great opportunity for even more local families to be a part of the amazing program at Operation Breakthrough!
