PRINCIPAL'S CORNER WITH MRS. GREEN
Dear Vickers Family,
As we approach the end of another school year, it's time to reflect on our accomplishments, celebrate our growth, and bid farewell to some very special members of our Vickers community. This year, our Grade 8 students have truly embodied their class theme, "Shine Bright," and it is with a mix of pride and bittersweet sentiment that we send them off to their next adventure.
To our Grade 8 students: Your journey through Vickers has been marked by curiosity, determination, and a spirit of collaboration. You've grown not only academically but also as compassionate, responsible individuals ready to make your mark on the world. As you move on to high school, remember to continue shining brightly. Embrace challenges with confidence, cherish friendships, and never stop striving for excellence. We believe in you and are excited to see the incredible things you will achieve.
We also say goodbye to some of our cherished staff and students who are leaving the Vickers family. Your contributions have enriched our community, and your presence will be deeply missed. Thank you for the lasting impact you've made. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope that you carry forward fond memories of your time with us.
As we look ahead to the summer, I want to extend my best wishes to all our students, staff, and families. May your summer be filled with relaxation, joy, and memorable moments. Take this time to recharge, explore new interests, and spend quality time with loved ones.
Thank you for another fantastic school year. Together, we have overcome challenges and celebrated successes, always striving to make Vickers a nurturing and inspiring place for all.
Have a wonderful summer. Bonne été!
Mrs. Jennie Green
VICKERS VOICES ( GRADE 8 STUDENTS)
I first came to Vickers in the 2nd grade, and I have actually stayed at this school longer than any other. I remember I was very nervous when I first came because I didn't know anyone, then I saw Calum and because we were in Sparks together at that time I was very excited to see him. Throughout the six years I've been here I've had my ups and downs, but overall I've had quite a fun time at this school. I've made many friends and memories over the years and I'm very thankful that I came to this school. I personally believe that this school and the teachers and students here have had a part in shaping me into the person I am today. - Kazeha
My experience at Vickers has been very good ever since I moved from Arthur Pechey. Ever since grade 4, I loved it here. The teachers here are very good and understanding. I do wish we went on more field trips throughout the year especially in grade 8 because it is our last year here. But other than that I have had a great time here at Vickers. - Mahad
My time here in Vickers started in 2020 and was entirely different compared to my old school and was vastly better if you asked me. I often compare Vickers and St Anne and always find that my time in Vickers is a lot better than St Anne’s with all of the memories I made here in Vickers. I remember the teachers, the experience, the fun activities and the chaotic moments! I wish to do it all over again because it was just so much fun! I also learned a lot here; I learned lessons for school and lessons for everyday life, sometimes even learning how to mix a bit of both for anything. Almost all of my memories here in Vickers are happy ones and I believe that they also shaped me into the person I am today. I am sad to leave Vickers, and how I wish to do everything all over again, but I am also grateful for Vickers to help me become the person I am today. - Leachim
My time here has been weird in a good and bad way. Lots of ups and downs. Some of my best memories were made in this school. Overall I’m very glad I went to vickers for my elementary school years. I have met some amazing people and I have had some amazing experiences. I think I'm gonna look back at these years and think “Wow, I had a great childhood!” because it's true. I think I will remember all the field trips, teachers and good moments forever. It’s pretty bittersweet to leave but I'm ready for what's next.
This year we are saying farewell to two teachers who are superannuating
Mme Marcia Klein
First, congratulations to Mme Marcia Klein, a teacher whose passion, dedication, and nurturing spirit have left an indelible mark on all who have had the privilege of knowing her. Over the years, Mme Klein has not only imparted academic knowledge but also enriched her students' lives through her love for outdoor education, yoga and meditation, and adventurous camping trips.
Mme Klein's teaching career began at Vickers in 2013. Known for her engaging and dynamic approach, she has made learning an enjoyable and transformative experience for countless students. Her classroom was always a place where curiosity was encouraged, creativity was fostered, and every student felt valued.
Mme Klein lovingly referred to her students as her "ducklings," always guiding them with care and compassion. Her ability to make each student feel seen and supported created a strong sense of community and belonging.
As Mme Klein embarks on this new chapter of her life, we reflect on the profound impact she has had on her students, colleagues, and the entire school community. Her legacy of passion, adventure, and nurturing will continue to inspire future generations.
Mme Klein, your "ducklings" will always carry the lessons you have taught them, and your spirit will forever be a part of our community. We wish you a retirement filled with joy, relaxation, and many new adventures.
Mrs. Alanna Banman
We also bid farewell to Mrs. Banman, and we celebrate her contributions as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher during her brief yet impactful time at Vickers. Mrs. Banman's patience and kindness have touched the lives of many students who were embarking on their journey to learn English.
Teaching EAL requires not only linguistic skills but also a great deal of patience and compassion. Mrs. Banman excelled in this regard, approaching each new student with a kind demeanor that put them at ease. She understood the challenges these students faced and worked tirelessly to help them overcome language barriers, fostering their confidence and helping them to integrate into the school community.
Mrs. Banman, your legacy of kindness and excellence in teaching will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of working with you. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope that your journey ahead is filled with happiness and success.
STUDENT PLACEMENT AT VICKERS
The process of placing students in classes for the upcoming school year is done with great care. Families often request teachers but as you can imagine, honoring all these requests would be impossible to balance classes. It is critical to ensure that each child is well-matched with a competent teacher and trust each class is balanced in terms of overall size, gender diversity, complex needs, and other factors.
We place great value on parent input about their child’s personality, preferences, and learning needs. However, we do not accept or honor requests for specific teachers. In order to ensure that each class is appropriately balanced, we have made class placement a staff decision, based on extensive discussion of each student. We also strive to ensure that each child is placed in a class with at least a few friends, while placing specific friends is appealing for a variety of reasons, it is not always possible.
In August, you may see your child’s class placement for 2024-25 on EDSBY, and we will not be making any changes to class lists after they are published on EDSBY, unless a change in enrollment or staffing makes it necessary to re-balance the classes.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
