ROCKLAND HIGH SCHOOL WEEKLY UPDATE
May 24, 2024
The Principal's Corner
I wanted to take a moment to thank our senior class for an exceptional finish to their high school careers. 2024 consists of such a nice group of kids! I am looking forward to celebrating with them at their prom this evening and the celebratory events next week. What an exciting time for all of our Rockland families!!
Yesterday, a special thank you to all of our senior parents for throwing our graduates an amazing senior cookout. These parents knew how to pivot; with a quick change in the forecast, the parents moved everything indoors and the kids had an outstanding time.

Senior Reminders for Next Week!
Tuesday, 5/28
There is a mandatory graduation practice at 9:00 AM in the RHS Gym. Being on time for the practice is critical! Seniors should plan on the practice going until 11:30 AM, but it may be shorter or longer depending on how engaged everyone is.
Graduation caps and gowns will be distributed after the graduation practice only if the seniors have fulfilled their obligations. These debts include students returning their Chromebooks and power cords during Senior Issues.
Students should try on their caps and gowns when they get home and hang them up. Seniors can contact class advisor Ms. DiCanzio if they have any issues with their cap and gown. Seniors can decorate their caps (they must be decorated appropriately), but they cannot decorate their gowns.
Wednesday, 5/29
Families should have received an invitation to the Senior Academic and Athletic Awards Night if their senior is getting recognized via email and mail. Please tell your child that they are getting recognized so you can both plan on attending. Seniors join us for dinner at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria and families join us for the recognition ceremony inside the auditorium at 7:00 PM. Proper dress (business casual) is required for seniors. Any senior, even if they are not getting recognized and family members, are welcome to attend!
Thursday, 5/30
The senior breakfast (optional event) is held in the cafeteria starting at 8:15 AM. Yearbooks will be distributed at the Senior Breakfast. Seniors cannot receive their yearbooks in advance of the breakfast, but may pick it up from Ms. Medeiros after the event.
We will have the Senior Send-Off! Seniors should arrive (bringing their cap and gown) for breakfast at 8:15 AM in the cafeteria. Then, we will depart at 9:00 AM for Phelps Elementary School and Rogers Middle School. This senior send-off is an opportunity for seniors to say goodbye to their elementary and middle school teachers and for the younger students to see the graduates in action! We will return no later than 10:00 AM.
Friday, 5/31
A mandatory Graduation practice will be held at 9:00 a.m. Seniors should meet in the RHS gym. If they are on time and engaged, the practice should last until about 11:30 a.m.
Graduation Night! Seniors need to report to the Gym by 5:30 PM. Graduation begins at 6:30 PM.
Proper dress is required for graduates (no flip flops, no sneakers, no shorts, no jeans, no heels with spikes, gowns must zipped). Students may decorate their caps but cannot have anything on their gowns except for school-issued National Honor Society, school-issued Class Officer or school-issued military chords.
If the weather is not good for graduation, the rain date is Saturday, June 1st, at 11:00 AM.
MFA Field Trip!
Juniors & seniors involved in the world language classes had the opportunity to experience the Museum of Fine Arts for a school field trip on Friday, May 17th!

Grade 9 Science MCAS Testing Info
On Tuesday, June 4th and Wednesday, June 5th, all grade 9 Rockland High School students will take the Science portion of the MCAS Exam in the morning. Passing the exam is a high school graduation requirement. On the dates of testing, test-takers need to bring a charged Chromebook and their power cord to school. The tests are taken on their Chromebook so this is very important. We do not have extra Chromebooks or power cords. Students not taking the Grade 9 Science MCAS Exam (primarily grades 10 & 11) must report to their first class of the day by 10:38 a.m.
Final Exam Information
Final exams for grades 9-11 students begin on Tuesday, June 11th, and conclude on Monday, June 17th.
During our final examination period, regular class sessions will be suspended. Students taking two exams in one day must arrive before 9:00 a.m. and remain in school until the conclusion of the second exam period at 1:30 p.m. Students taking only one exam on any given day must arrive on time for that exam and may leave campus when the exam period is concluded. Exams will be two hours in length.
Underclassmen's Final Exam grades will be recorded in a separate column on the final report card and will constitute 10% of the final grade.
Students must remain in the testing classroom until the end of the exam period. Students are encouraged to bring reading or other school work in case they finish exams early. Students cannot get dismissed from an exam once it has begun.
A student who reports to school after 9:05 AM must report to the main office and will not be allowed into classrooms for testing without the permission of a teacher or administrator.
Athletics
Spring sports are coming to a close. Baseball, softball, and boys lacrosse have tournament hopes this spring. It has been a very successful spring season...especially now that we are seeing summer weather (no spring weather, of course!!).
