Crow Island Parent Newsletter
October 6, 2024
Dear Crow Island Families,
We are really looking forward to having families visit us this week for Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Week at Crow Island this week! This traditions begins the Monday before Run-a-thon and we hope that all families and students participate. In addition, this week is also the time we will practice our lockdown drill with students. Today, teachers will talk students through the lockdown drill. During this practice experience, teachers and students work together to talk through a potential situation. The police are not present for this drill and the experience lasts about 10 minutes. On Tuesday, students and staff will practice a lockdown drill with the Winnetka Police Department. When the drill is completed, I will push into classrooms, give the all clear, and also send home a message to families.
If interested, I will be hosting a school conversation with Dr. Tess on Thursday evening. You can RSVP in the message below if you wish to join. I hope to see you on Thursday!
Have a great week,
Luke

At Crow Island it is also a time for our learning community to focus on a culture of inclusion and learn more about disabilities. The Crow Island Library has cultivated a collection of books through Destiny that can be found here: October Destiny Collection.

New! K-8 Literacy Program Con’t
Last week’s Principal Newsletter featured some highlights about what the new literacy program is designed to do to support student learning and growth. With this change, the units at each grade level have new topics or themes.

This is a time when learning routines are established and teachers are able to get an initial understanding of current student performance in the areas of reading and writing. Following this first unit, each grade level has three units based on a theme.
