November 2024 - Volume 9 Issue 3
Dear Families,
Hope your fall season is off to a splendid start. Our 2024-25 school year is in full swing. Can you believe we are a quarter of the way through our school year already? As such, we encourage you to attend our upcoming Fall Conferences and review your student’s progress with the individual teachers. The conferences will be an open house format and parents/guardians can drop in for a 10-minute overview with individual teachers without an appointment.
Our conference schedule is as follows (please see our website for more information):
Monday November 4th: 8:15 – 11:00 and 12:45 – 2:4
Tuesday, November 5th: 8:15 – 11:00 and 12:45 – 2:45 as well as 4:00 – 6:30
On a different note, we continue to use our SOAR expectations (Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect) to create a campus culture of safety, respect, and belonging for all students and staff. As a Mill Creek community and Heatherwood campus, we each bring something unique to share and celebrate. With different cultures, perspectives, and experiences, we are truly fortunate to be part of such a vibrant campus community. At the heart of our community values are respect and kindness, qualities that bring us together even when we may see things differently.
We encourage you to join us in fostering these values by modeling and sharing the message of respect and kindness with one another on and off our various campus communities within the Mill Creek area. By embracing our differences and showing understanding, we create a supportive environment for our children—a place where everyone feels valued and safe.
Let’s remind our children (and ourselves) that each person’s voice is important. Together, let's continue building a community where kindness and respect thrive!
Warm regards,
Laura Wellington
Principal
From the Assistant Principal
I hope this newsletter finds you well and ready to embrace the winter season. As we head into November, I'd like to share some important updates and information with you regarding our school and our upcoming Winter 1 sports season.

Audience Behavior Expectations: Practicing S.O.A.R.
At our school, we believe that sports events are a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy and demonstrate S.O.A.R values (Safety, Ownership, Achievement, Respect). As spectators, we encourage everyone to:
**Safety**: Keep aisles clear and follow any guidance from staff to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
**Ownership**: Take responsibility for their behavior by cheering positively, respecting the rules, and helping to keep our gym and fields clean.
**Achievement**: Show pride in the efforts of our athletes, win or lose, and celebrate the hard work and achievements of all teams.
**Respect**: Show respect to players, coaches, officials, and other spectators by displaying good sportsmanship and using positive language.
Your support in encouraging these values helps create a respectful atmosphere and foster community.
Safety Focus: Lockdown Drill
In line with our commitment to safety, we will conduct a lockdown drill this month. Safety is a top priority, and we want to ensure that students and staff are well-prepared for any emergency.
Before the drill, students will receive an overview of procedures to help them understand what to do in a lockdown and to familiarize them with our safety protocols. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the lockdown drill or any other safety-related topics, please reach out to us.
As we enter November, we are thankful for the unwavering support of our parents and guardians. Your involvement in your child’s education and safety is invaluable. Together, we look forward to a successful Winter 1 sports season and to maintaining a positive, supportive school environment where students can SOAR to their fullest potential.
Happy November Hawks!
Chris Doll
Assistant Principal
Friendly Reminders
With the days getting shorter, we want to remind families to exercise parking lot safety. Please drive slowly, follow directional signs, and give pedestrians the right of way. PLEASE be extra aware with the limited light that students are walking in our parking lot. If your student is a walker, please remind them to use the sidewalks to and from school.
Please take into consideration that our front office is supporting over 1000 students and families and ask that you assist in helping your students prepare for their school day the night before. This would reduce the number of classroom interruptions throughout the day for items left at home or afterschool messages for students. Our website is updated frequently and is a wonderful resource for families to stay up to date with school happenings.
Attendance reporting can be done through email at heaattendance@everettsd.org, phone 425-385-6305, or written note. Please include your students full name, ID number, date of the absence or late arrival, and the reason for absence.
