Secondary School Update
October 11th, 2024
ROCORI Families,
What are we doing with late starts?
When students have a late start every other Wednesday, we want you to know that our staff is busy and engaged. This time is valuable! At ROCORI Secondary, we are a professional learning community focused on student achievement. During these late starts, our staff is engaged in a collaborative process where we review our standards and ensure that our assessments are measuring achievement on those standards. This time is always focused on four essential questions: 1. What do we want students to know? 2. How will we know that they know it? 3. What do we do when they don’t? 4. What do we do when we do? The goal is to constantly improve instruction to help our students achieve more through collaborative teaming.
This video on the PLC process shares more information on the staff work being conducted during late starts.
Because we have high standards for student and adult learning, we limit student access to academic hallways until 8:55 while teachers meet and collaborate. We are happy to welcome students whenever they arrive on these late starts, but we ask them to stay in our supervised commons and gym until 8:55.
Thank you for supporting this important work by reinforcing this expectation when talking with your child.
