Grateful for our Community
Dear Bateman Families and Friends,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded of the gratitude we hold for each member of the Bateman Family. Thanksgiving is a time to pause and spend time with those who are important to us, as well as a time to connect and express sincere thanks to those who have impacted our lives. Each of you has made a profound impact on our lives.
To our students: We thank each of our 938 students for your kind and thoughtful spirit, your curiosity, hard work, and passion for new learning. You inspire us daily to grow as educators and encourage us to continuously improve. Hearing your voices and seeing your smiles fills our hearts, seeing you overcome challenges reminds us to persevere, and your ability to laugh and play keeps joy at the center of our school.
To our staff: We are in awe of your relentless efforts, your dedication, and your positive, solution-oriented approach to ensure our families receive nothing but the best. We see you going above and beyond for our students each and every day!
To our parents: We are grateful for your support, enthusiasm and commitment to being a part of the Bateman community. We appreciate your responsiveness, your willingness to collaborate and share new ideas, and your generosity to uplift new families and contribute to school needs.
To our Parent Organizations: Your dedication to our school community is inspiring! We know that many events would not be possible with your engagement and partnership. If you have not found a way to become involved in a parent organization quite yet, please reach out to the Bateman Boosters, BFC, BAC, or PAC to learn the many ways to stay involved!
We are truly thankful for each of our Bateman family members that make our school community thrive - there is much for which to be grateful. We hope that you enjoy a few the highlights included below from the year so far!
We will be sending the next Buzz when we return from Thanksgiving Break. As always, we thank you for your continued partnership and wish all who celebrate a wonderful Thanksgiving. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, December 2nd at 7:50am when doors open!
Warmly,
Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper
Quarter 1 Showcase
Amazing Parent Support
Thank you to the record number of families that came out and showed their support. Our students were excited to show off their amazing quarterly work.
Kindness Campaign
Be Kind, Be Bateman
57 of our students were nominated by their peers for exemplifying what it means to be kind and had their names entered into a raffle. Students who were randomly selected got to celebrate at Chicago Wolves game!
Kindness Pledge
As a part of Bullying Awareness month in October every Bateman student took the Kindness pledge. This included taking the pledge and signing the orange pledge ribbon. As our student leaders and ambassadors, our 8th grade classes then went outside and tied each pledge to the fence. The color orange represents the time of year that Bullying Awareness month takes place. We are proud to know that every orange ribbon you see out front is a student who is choosing kindness and to be an upstander.
Recognition for Mr. Geisler
Mr. Geisler is the Chess Coach of the Decade!
Mr. Geisler received the Coach of the Decade Award from the Chicago Chess Foundation. Congratulations to Mr. Geisler on his well deserved award and recognition! Our students thrive in the continuous Chess program here at Bateman. We are so proud of you!
Kedzie Center School Partner Award
Celebrating One of Our Partnerships
Our counselor Ms. Rivera accepted the Kedzie Center School Partner Award on behalf of Bateman Elementary School. Every year at Kedzie Center's Annual Event, a school and community partner who has worked alongside the Kedzie center to meet the needs of our shared community is honored.
PLTW Award
Bateman Honored as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished Gateway School
The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program empowers students across the country to develop their science, technology, engineering and math knowledge and skills. All of the sixth, seventh and eighth graders at Bateman are part of PLTW’s Gateway program. During their Engineering classes with Mr. Warden, these students are following PLTW's Design and Modeling curriculum to create three-dimensional objects using a computer-aided design (CAD) application called Tinkercad.
Bateman is one of only 18 schools (both public and private) in the entire state of Illinois to be recognized as a PLTW Distinguished Gateway School this year. The PLTW Distinguished Program recognizes schools committed to ensuring “student access, engagement, and achievement” in the PLTW curriculum.
Music Experiences from Quarter 1
Wow! October brought so many musical experiences for our students!
On October 9th, we had a guest violist, Adam Davidowitz, do some class work to connect music to telling a story complete with actions and emotion! Mr. Adam is a local musician and offers violin lessons. Please click here if you are interested in more information about violin lessons for your student!
Callisto String Quartet
On October 10th we were thrilled to host the Callisto String Quartet to perform for students and demonstrate not only their instruments but also how to work as an ensemble.
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
On October 18th, our 1st and 2nd grade students were the recipients of a free field trip to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to see Philharmonia Fantastique and will lead into their continued learning on Instruments of the Orchestra and Science of Sound!
Von Steuben Band Flash Mob
On October 23rd our students were treated to a surprise concert by the amazingly talented Von Steuben High School Band!
We can't wait to take these opportunities as inspiration for our own performance preparation! Save the date! The winter show will be on December 19th and will be at 8:30am and 2:00pm (Same show, two time options!)
Celebrating Language
Exciting Library Updates
Dual Language Teachers Attend La Cosecha
Four of our Dual Language teachers represented our incredible Dual Language Team at the world renowned La Cosecha annual conference in November! This is a highly sought after learning opportunity to enhance and strengthen our Dual Language Program at Bateman! We look forward to educating our staff with all of their current learning!
Community Gatherings
What a Hit! High School Musical, Jr!
Congratulations to all Bateman Thespians! What an incredible performance of High School Musical Jr! Thank you to all actors, parents, and our partners at Stages for making this a production to remember!
BOOOsterfest
The most SPOOKtakular event yet - with over 1600 attendees! Thank you for the the Boosters and all volunteers for making BOOOsterfest such a great community experience!
Bateman Walk-A-Thon
Wow, what an amazing day! Students, staff, administration, parents, family and friends, and community members all came together to make this event the most successful Blaze Walk-a-Thon yet! Over $37,000 was raised to support Physical Education, Health, and Sports at Bateman! While our goal was $50,000, we are truly in awe of the support and donations we received for this event.
