Schools Offer Support (SOS) is a nonprofit organization that serves members of the Birmingham Public Schools community through outreach efforts, financial support, and volunteer activities. SOS was founded in 2008 by a group of parents that wanted to work with students to build a stronger community through acts of kindness. SOS is committed to helping those in need and teaching students that community matters. You can read more about the mission on our website. This annual race is our biggest fundraiser of the year and helps us support a vast array of community needs. Your participation will help SOS to continue supporting families in our community. Some examples of our outreach are:
· Food boxes, gift cards and childcare support for financially challenged families
· Tutoring programs for middle school and elementary students
· Thanksgiving dinners to dozens of families in need each year
· Holiday gifts purchased and wrapped for families in need
· Leaf raking for seniors in our community
· Financial aid for those faced with sudden emergencies
· Barbara and Sheldon Weisberg Laptop scholarships awarded to select college-bound seniors annually
· and much, much more
Respecting family privacy is paramount; all needs are filled anonymously.
The SOS Race has a new race location this year! We are moving to the village of Beverly Hills and will be starting and finishing at Beverly Park. Our first event, the Creating a Better World through Dialogue Conference, will be held on Thursday, October 24th during the school day at Seaholm. Our keynote speakers are Stephen Henderson and Nolan Finley, the founders of The Civility Project, and our individual sessions will include Seaholm faculty members Kellie Vagts discussing art and democracy, Kellie Howe discussing the famous Tinker v. Des Moines free speech case, Wayne State professor Richard Marback, and a Seaholm student/faculty panel on having difficult conversations in the classroom.
Keynote Speakers:
Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson of the Civility Project
Richard Marback, Wayne State Professor and Research Fellow Center for the Study of Citizenship
Seaholm Faculty, Kellie Howe and Kellie Vagts

Cleaning out your closets? Donate to Bloom!
Our inventory is getting LOW and we are asking our Seaholm AND all BPS families to bring your gently used clothing items to donate and help stock our store! There is a Bloom collection box at the Pool Door entrance and in the Main Entrance Security Office for easy, convenient drop off.
Bloom is a second hand store that promotes students to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Instead of paying for store items, students share a positive note with a special faculty/staff member or friend, creating a caring and positive community! This is a valuable resource for families in the district, not just at Seaholm! Please keep Bloom in mind when you are cleaning out closets at home!

Clubs & Extra Curriculars
SAT Club
Each year, colleges become more and more selective. With the increasing competition, colleges look at standardized results to compare students, the most common of which being the SAT. Although a strong SAT score cannot guarantee admission, as the college application process is holistic, a weak score will bring an application down. Here at the SAT Club, we aim to educate students on the intricacies of the SAT so that they may get closer to their target score.

First Fridays
Hi Seaholm students and families. First Friday is a way our community celebrates our fabulous Seaholm staff. On the first Friday of every month we hold a drawing and pick 10 or so staff members who win a prize. The prize is usually a gift card or gift donation in the amount of the 25$ range. Our goal is for all our staff to be recognized once during the school year. Please consider donating- see sign up link below. Please reach out to Emily Johnson ( 404-312-8934) or Amanda Sobolewski ( 313-289-4989) if you have any questions. Thank you!
Seaholm Monthly Staff Treats
Each month the Seaholm parent community and PTA provide a fun treat for the Seaholm staff. The treats are set up in the staff lounge with a note of gratitude for all they do. The note also includes the name of the Seaholm family who sponsored the treats. This is a simple way to help add some fun to the day of our Seaholm staff!
If your family would like to help sponsor one of the monthly treat days, you can Venmo $150 to @SeaholmHS-PTA. Please include the family name you would like included on the sign placed with the treats.
