JMMS Updates
Weekly Spotlight: 6th Grade Camp
***IMPORTANT***
Parents may drop students off with camping gear between 8:30-9:00 am. Please use entrance 5W (Sauder side of the building). Students will check in as they enter.
● At check in students will turn in any camp store money that they will be taking.
● Students that have medications will turn them in at this time.
● Students will then place their gear in their assigned area in the Gold Gym. It is VERY IMPORTANT that students are able to carry all items by themselves. There will be no parents past the registration table so students will be carrying all their own items from that point forward including getting on the bus and at camp.
Outdoor Education Camp Pick Up instructions:
On the final day of camp for each session, the buses will leave Camp Muskingum at approximately 11:45 am.
Sessions 2 and 3
Due to paving at North Park, students will be picked up at JMMS. Please read carefully below:
- Buses will arrive at Fife Stadium at approximately 1:00 pm. Parents will pick students up behind the Purple Gym on the East side of the building. (Please pull in by the electronic sign and pull past the Purple Gym to the back parking lot. Do not drive all the way into the stadium.)
- Please wait in the parking lot for your child to come out of the gate. Parents will NOT be permitted inside the stadium.
- Be sure to pick up any medication and leftover camp money that was sent with your child to camp. Any leftover medications and money will be taken back to the Middle School.
Any camp-specific questions can be directed to Mr. Harold Fisher at hmf2jc@bearworks.jackson.sparcc.org
Book Tastings in the Learning Commons
Some of our ELA classes have been participating in "Book Tastings" this week. During the visits to our Learning Commons, students have the ability to talk with our Library/Media Specialist Mr. Huthmacher and check out all the offerings the Learning Commons has to offer. (Mrs. White and Miss Tan got in the action with their Reading Rainbow shirts!)

Students received a copy of their OST results from the Spring administration during their 10th period class today. You have already received this infomration in June. The state provided these additional copies, so we are sending them home with your child. Thanks!

Registration for the 2024 PSAT is now open!
Every October the high school offers the PSAT/NMSQT to our juniors and sophomores and the PSAT 8/9 to our freshmen. Additionally, the middle school offers the PSAT 8/9 to our eighth graders. If you are the parent of an 8th-, 9th-, 10th-, or 11th-grade student, please encourage your child to register for the 2024 PSAT, currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The registration page is simply an in-house Google form that is used to record the names and basic information of those students who sign up.
While the PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) can both be utilized as excellent standardized test practice for the SAT and the ACT, they also serve a bigger purpose. When taken during a student’s junior year, the PSAT/NMSQT acts as a potential ticket into the National Merit Scholarship program. Juniors who score extremely well on the test may have the opportunity to be named National Merit Semifinalists during September of their senior year and compete for a spot as a National Merit Finalist. Dozens of colleges and universities across the country offer full-tuition scholarships to National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists; in addition, roughly 20 universities nationwide award full-ride or full cost-of-attendance scholarships to National Merit Finalists.
Case in point, Vivian Janes, a National Merit Finalist and member of the Class of 2024, is beginning her first year at the University of Alabama where she will receive UA’s full-ride National Merit Finalist Scholarship package valued at $218,000 over five years!
By taking the PSAT 8/9 as an 8th and/or 9th grader and the PSAT/NMSQT as a 10th grader, your child will gain a significant advantage in his or her ability to score well on the PSAT/NMSQT junior year. As mentioned above, multiple sessions with the PSAT suite of tests will also help your child strengthen his or her standardized testing stamina and acumen for the SAT and/or ACT.
Please use the link below to access the 2024 PSAT registration Google form. It only takes a minute to fill it out and serves as the registration page for both the PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT/NMSQT. The PSAT is currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The deadline to register is Friday, September 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM. If testing accommodations are required, you must register by Sunday, August 18, 2024 so that we have time to approve and apply those accommodations to the test.
If you have any questions, please contact Drew Farneth, Jackson High School PSAT and National Merit Program Mentor, at arf3jc@bearworks.jackson.sparcc.org.
