Mission Viejo Elementary -- Issue #3 May 2025
Mission Viejo Families,
This newsletter is designed to support you in fostering a love of reading at home. Here you
will find tips, resources, strategies, and advice to help your child thrive as a reader.
Thank you for your continued partnership in nurturing your child's reading journey!
Read All Summer, Grow All Summer
Reading over the summer is one of the most important ways to help your child maintain the skills they worked hard to build during the school year. Research shows that students who don’t read over the summer can lose up to two months of reading progress—a phenomenon often called the “summer slide.” The good news? Just 20 minutes of reading a day can help prevent this loss and even strengthen your child’s literacy skills. Whether it’s books, magazines, or audiobooks, keeping reading part of your child’s summer routine sets them up for success in the fall.
