Superintendent's Update
June 2025
FAREWELL
Dear Rye Neck Families,
This is my final monthly message to the Rye Neck community, so I want to emphasize my gratitude to all. When I was personally in middle school I marched down Mamaroneck Avenue with my hometown fire department band during parades; when my wife and I were dating we went to the theater on the avenue; when I first started teaching here my father came to see me coach modified football; and I used to bring my young children to the Spring Fair. Far beyond offering a rewarding career as a teacher, principal, and superintendent, Rye Neck has been a significant part of my life.
Consistent with that home-like environment and true to Rye Neck character, everyone has been so nice to me after my retirement announcement. I am proud of my work and thankful for the strong relationships I have enjoyed over the last 30 years. I look forward to seeing our wonderful district’s continued success.
I am forever grateful to each of you. You have my deepest respect and best regards.
Eric
BUDGET
Since my last monthly letter, Rye Neck passed its 2025-26 school year budget on May 20th. This was the 14th consecutive time we proposed a budget that serves our students without asking to exceed the 2% tax levy cap and we were rewarded with an 82.4% passing rate. I want to reiterate my thanks to our community for the support that allows us to prioritize student learning, the exciting extracurriculars that create great school memories for our students, and other elements of contemporary schools such as appropriate student-teachers ratios and security. Our continued investment in the tenets of our Rye Neck Strategic Plan demonstrates a commitment to a dynamic future. I also want to thank and commend the faculty, staff, and administrators who have been the foundation for a superior school experience. Last, I want to thank the six trustees of our Board of Education who contribute innumerable volunteer hours to the stewardship of our district.
SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Our Rye Neck Safe Routes to School team is happy to pass along news of a NYS DOT Open House on June 5th at Mamaroneck High School. The goal of the meeting is to gather community feedback in advance of the NY State Route 1 repaving project along the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Corridor planned to begin in 2026. The Open House begins at 5 p.m.-- please attend and give voice to our need for a safe commuting environment for our students.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
In each monthly message, we spotlight high school students who are doing interesting things in or out of school. Based on the relationships our staff members forge with their students and their knowledge of what’s going on in their lives, our teachers suggest students for consideration. Mary Lanza, our Director of Technology and Communications, then interviews the students to “get their story.” Here are the students for June. To read about the student, click on the name below their picture.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
We like to highlight teachers and other staff members each month. Each shares personal reflections on how they got into education, memories from their time as students, and their favorite activities outside of school. To read about a staff member, click on the name below their picture.
