Message from Mr. Jason Phillips
Hello WRJH Families:
I hope that you and your families are doing well. We had an amazing first quarter here at Waggoner Road and your students have been working hard and pushing themselves. As we move into the second quarter, I wanted to point out that for many of your students classes are going to be a bit more challenging. A big part of the first quarter is relationship building and reviewing previous material, especially in Math. As the new material becomes the focus of daily work, we often find that students become frustrated because things are not as easy as they were a few weeks ago. Please talk with your students about this and let them know this is normal. We are here to work together and support each other, but we are also here to challenge the students because that is when they work the hardest and learn the most. I have yet to meet a teenager that likes to be challenged and feel like they are struggling, so this is often a point of frustration for them. Please keep checking in with them, encouraging them to work through the struggle, and remind them that we are all here to support them, so they need to communicate when they need a little extra help and support.
We are also entering into the cold and flu season, so please remind your students to wash their hands often, do not share drinks or food with each other, and make sure they are getting plenty of rest. We want everyone to be healthy and take good care of themselves.
Thank you for all of your hard work, your students are amazing children that have so much potential. I truly enjoy our partnership and look forward to coming to school everyday because of how wonderful the students, staff, and families are here! Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!

WRJH Families:
We are running low on our daily loaner chromebooks. Please make sure that your students are charging their chromebooks every night and are bringing them to school everyday. In order to help make sure that loaner chromebooks are turned back in every day, we are asking for students to trade something in that will remind them to come back to the office at the end of the day and turn back in the chromebook. For example, some students have turned in their phone. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us with this matter.
Additionally, please have conversations with your student's about the fact they are financially responsible for any damage to their chromebooks, as they are scanned to each student's account when they are checked out. We have had several damaged screens and keyboards over the past few weeks and need your help making sure that students are more careful with the devices.
Thank you
Is your student missing a jacket, hoodie, water bottle or any other miscellaneous items?
Lost and found items are located in the office in plain view for students to come claim any lost or forgotten items. We will be donating any items that are left at the end of each quarter. Please instruct your student if they have misplaced items to come take a quick look during their lunch time.
STEM DAY-FREE Event
My name is Anna Mickol, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Ohio State University’s Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) to let you know about an exciting opportunity for middle and high school students interested in STEM. BMES is hosting its annual STEM Day on Sunday, October 20th from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. STEM Day is a free event in collaboration with College of Engineering students and faculty. This year’s event will be hosted in person @ OSU’s Fontana Laboratories, and features a number of hands-on STEM activities:
This year’s event features:
Ultrasound lab: learn to use and read real ultrasound machines
EMG lab: learn how to take an EMG and read signals from their own muscles
Coding activity: learn some of the basics of web design and programming
Tour of biomedical engineering facilities
Free lunch!
This is a fantastic opportunity for any student who is interested in STEM to have hands-on experiences with real world technology, and learn more about STEM opportunities at OSU!
Would you please share the attached flier with any of your students (7th-12th grade) who may be interested in this opportunity? Sign-ups are open now at https://go.osu.edu/bmes-stemday and spots are limited, so be sure to share this opportunity before spots are filled!
Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your time and for your help getting the word out about OSU STEM Day Fall 2024!
Best,

Grief Groups/Services
OhioHealth offers school grief support services for children and teens who have experienced the death of a friend or family member. We are appreciative of donations and grant funding that allow this program to be provided at no cost to the family or school. Our licensed OhioHealth grief counselors use evidence-based discussions and hands-on activities to help youth explore and express their feelings related to loss, adjust to changes due to the death, honor and remember the person who died and identify healthy strategies to navigate their grief. A grief counselor would meet with a group of students weekly for approximately 6 to 8 sessions.
If you have any additional questions related to our programing or specific to child and adolescent grief, please call 614-566-1728 or email youthgrief@ohiohealth.com. Thank you for trusting us to support your child.
If you are interested in your child participating in this group, please contact the School Social Worker, Mrs. Heedy at Samantha.Heedy@reyn.org or 614-501-5702.
